Join us on September 10th for our next LA Ruby meetup. This month's meetup will be at CPO Commerce in Pasadena. Many thanks to CPO Commerce for hosting the meetup in August! CPO Commerce has their own parking lot, or you can park on the street nearby.

No one is scheduled to provide food at this time, so let me know if your company is willing to provide food in exchange for a sponsorship spot at the meetup.

This month we're also trying something new: Since this year's Ruby Sparring tournament has been announced (it's hangman), we're going to try a brief Coding Dojo session to introduce the contest to everybody. The deadline for submissions is September 30th.

Schedule:

7:00-7:15 Open
7:15-7:30 Introductions
7:30-8:30 Presentations
8:30-10:00 Hangman Mini Dojo / Open

Presentations:

Testing with Cucumber
by Bharad Naryanan and Scott Wilkinson

Using nCurses in Ruby
by Lars Lehtonen

I really enjoyed both presentations! I'm too much of a newbie for the coding dojo...but it looked like fun. Did a little networking and even discovered a couple of people from my own company...secret rails fans!

I am looking forward to the coding dojo. Hopefully it will be a fun and interesting way for everyone to improve their programming chops. Remember, this is dojo (place for training) not sparring (mock combat). The purpose is not to complete, but to improve programming form. Anyone who wants to improve their Ruby programming, at any ability level, should get something out of it, if we do it right. Bring laptops!
