About 6.0 miles one-way. 1515 feet in altitude gain in first 4 miles; 700 feet altitude loss in last 2 miles. Accordingly, the way back would be 700 feet elevation gain, 1515 feet loss.
The trail is a combination of sand, clay, and rocky trail. The terrain is desert and high desert with small trees, cacti, and related flora.
The difficulty level of the hike is medium, however, consider the length of 12 miles.
Bring 3 liters of drinking water and snacks/lunch.
Directions:
Take Highway 70 East (toward Alamogordo) to Baylor Canyon Drive (watch for sign carefully). Turn right on Baylor Canyon Drive. Drive about a mile to the parking lot on the left hand side of the road with the sign of "Baylor Pass".
As always, you hike at your own risk.
It was so good that after the group left, another buddy and I went back for a do-over.

Very nice well maintained trail with some beautiful views of the Mesilla Valley and Tularosa Basin. Was still a little on the warm side to me today with high of 88 in Las Cruces.
