Let's all try to be punctual at 6:00 am. If you need someone to be your human alarm, you can count with me. Will need your 10 digits though.
If you RSVP and then decide you cannot go. Please be more consider with other hikers who want to go and cancel yourself from the hike 30 hours prior to the meetup. As I said before, I dislike the "Waiting List" but unfortunate this park requires only 12 hikers to do this hike. If for any chances we get over 20 hikers, we'll have to do 2 different hikes in two groups.
From the Casino we will carpool to save on gas and start new friendship along the road. Please tip your driver $20 - $25 dollars. It doesn't only covers the gas, but also the use of car. Remember that a car mileage it doesn't stay low if you keep using it for trips. Besides, you'll be a passanger with no worries of driving and looking in the road. Park entrance is $25 per vehicle and covers up to 15 passengers. Everyone in the car should share the cost.
Zion offers a $30 annual pass for that specific park only, but you can purchase the Cover all National parks annual pass for $80. Seniors over the age of 62 have an advantage to purchase a lifetime annual pass for only $10., you must have proof of being a resident or citizen of this country. If you are a driver, please post a comment to let everyone know you're driving. It's better to just keep 4 people in a vehicle of 5 to be more comfortable if possible. I'm always a driver or I'll be car sick. No kidding.
Hours to Zion about: 2 hrs. 35 minutes
Miles one way: 153 if getting to the entrance only
Taking I-15 north to exit 40 will initiate our day.
KOLOB CANYONS: According to my research, we will be driving 5 miles on a beautiful scenic along the Kolob Rd., good start to get your cameras ready for memorable pictures. Drive carefully to avoid accidents as many drivers will be doing the same as you do.
Zion is all about wilderness with a protected primitive environment, which means: If you brough food with you or drinks, please be kind to take it back with you. Don't leave trace behind, let's keep out environment clean at all times. Always carry an extra plastic bag with you.
KEEP READING OR YOU'LL REGRET IT
We should be getting at the hiking trail around 9:00 am or before depending on how many pictures you take. The park has peaks of Navajo sandstones, canyoon streams and cascading falls. Looking forward to get wet if not cold. It offers us over 20 miles of hiking trail, which we won't do.
Kolob Arch via LaVerkin Creek
8 miles roundhike with distance of 14.0 miles/22.5 km, elevation of 1037 feet of which we might only do 5-7 miles or less. We'll enjoy the scenery and take pictures while having fun.
After 7 miles a spur trail leads to a viewpoint to the Kolob Arch. This Arch is one of the World's largest natural Arch. Must save battery in your phone of camera to take this picture. We'll be crossing Timber Creek and have lots of view of the Kolob Canyons.
WHAT TO BRING:
A good sense of humor to start. Make sure to check the weather before you decide what to wear. preferable to always carry extra change of clothes with you and extra pair of socks. Plenty of water, snacks, a small meal ( we will have supper somewhere in a restaurant) fruits, wear sun-block, sunglasses, deodorant or you'll kill a few birds, haha I got you... I'll have my medium cooler in my trunk if anyone would like to bring drinks. Last time I had a big one and it was difficult to pull from my trunk. Live and learn. Hats if you don't want the sun in your face. Always carry cash with you when going to another state. Not recommended to use credit cards. A positive attitute a must wear at all times.
