I started to think more about my health after an extended illness and the death of a dear friend. Woke me up. I started out by eating healthier, meeting some new friends, going out, and started walking everyday around the neighborhood. Also, starting to swim laps again. That got too easy so I moved on to Floyd Lamb Park. Really a beautiful area. But, it gets boring walking (and hiking where I'm not supposed to be) the same area every day.
I want to expand my horizons and strengthen my core. Nothing better for that than hiking. I used to play a lot of sports and started hiking in high school. Then, after you start work, get married, have kids, doing stuff for yourself kind of gets put on the side.
Red Rocks is perfect for my needs or someone just beginning. Different skill levels as you progress. I hope to one day make it to the waterfall. Mt. Charleston is supposed to be a good place to hike also. It's cooler in the summer and also has different levels of difficulty. Lake Mead might be nice for a day trip. Lone Mountain is just my speed.
No experience needed is perfect for me. Meeting new people and not having to hike alone are powerful incentives.
