Las Vegas Romance Writers - RWA - Creating Dynamic Characters with Tami Cowden

Using Archetypes to Craft Characters to Grab Your Readers

Since the dawn of fiction, humans have recognized and loved specific hero and heroine types.  Learn to tap into the collective unconscious to develop characters with whom readers instantly empathize.

Award winning writer Tami Cowden has presented programs at more than one hundred writing conferences and retreats across the country, and has taught online writing classes. Tami is the coauthor of The Complete Writers Guide to Heroes and Heroines: Sixteen Master Archetypes, a guide to literary archetypes.  Her first novel, Cruising for Love, winner of RWA’s Golden Heart, was released by Avalon Books.

The general member meeting begins at 10 am and the speaker program begins at 10:30 am. We have a new location:
117 S. 7th Street between Carson and Freemont. It looks like construction trailers, but the interior is very nice. There is parking at the El Cortez or on 7th in front of the location.
See you there!

As usual, Tami kept us spellbound with her presentation. Her ability to equate the archetypes to movie heroines allows us to realize their traits. Thanks.

Tami is a pleasure to listen to. She's intelligent yet down to earth. Her discussion on the archetypes was interesting and at times humorous, her encouragement for audience participation was enjoyable, and the insightful points brought up by the group were helpful. I felt this meeting was time well spent and, as a bonus, I made a few new writer friends.
