HackNight with The Las Vegas Ruby Group

Hack Night Agenda

6:00-6:30 PM - One-on-one help

This is the time to come ask questions, squash a bug and get Ruby setup on your laptop. To make the most of this time you should bring code/errors and ask others for help.

6:30-9ish - Three options

1) TBD (beginners)"Basic Debugging a.k.a. How to Save Yourself From 8 Hours Staring at a Random Errors"

Gabe Evans will be covering a great topic for those looking to accelerate the learning process and avoid barking up the wrong tree.

2) Group project (advance) - Alex Peachey will continue leading the development of our group app This is a great opportunity to gain insight into the process of building an application, share tips and opinions on the best practices of application development.

3) Do your own thing (loner) - We've seen members get the most value out of more structured meetups. However, one can always come and work on their own stuff.

Thanks Gabe and Ruby fellers! For fng’s like me that are starting to learn from tutorials, errors are a pain in the ass. So as for suggestions, Throwing it out there… If you linked us a relevant tutorial for “homework” before class, we could start figuring out a topic before we meet? On hacknight we’d be better prepared to ask questions and could go over variations of the tutorial topic together? That might help us to all stay on the same page and/or be better prepared to learn the topic deeper? I find myself getting stuck frequently on topics.
Anywho, thanks again. See ya next week

Hey, Nolan. Great idea! I'll find some time over the next few days figuring out the topic for next hack night and post up some material beforehand.

I started studying ruby this week and soon will move to rails. But progress is not that quick. I have a website that I want to develop further by adding a booking calendar and pop up messages to agree with liability waiver.
