*~*This group is just re-forming now that I (Juliette) have taken over as Organizer. It's a new beginning!!*~*
Are you looking for Community, Friendship, Laughter AND Books? Book groups can be an amazing opportunity for friendship, stress-relief, fun and laughter! If you are looking for a group that values and loves books, AND values and loves time spent laughing with other people, this is the group for you! We'll meet on the 3rd Sunday of every month at 4pm** for lively discussions, intriguing books and great conversation. Come and build a community with us, one book at a time!
We'll be reading Literary Fiction, Memoirs, Short Stories and maybe a few Classics thrown in there! We will vote on our books about every six months, so start thinking about those books "on your list" that you've been wanting to read, but have been putting off, or haven't gotten around to reading. This is your chance!
The way we choose our books is by democratic process. Everyone brings in a list, and a description of 3-6 books they want the group to read, and presents them to the group. We try not to read books we've read before, and then we vote, narrowing the selection down to six books, and then we vote in "the order in which we'd like to read them." In other words, no "heavy dramas" around the holidays! Also, we have found that books around 300 pages (more or less) is a comfortable range for us to read in a month.
We'll also be doing a Book Swap! If you have books to share that you're done reading, or will never get to, by all means, bring them to the Meetup to share with other Members!
This is not a potluck, but we'll be sharing appetizers and beverages with one another. Bring either store-bought snacks, or perhaps you have a recipe you've been wanting to try out to share with friends? This is your opportunity!
**One last thing: If you RSVP, *PLEASE* show up!! I'm serious about this one, folks! If you can't make it to a Meetup, please take a moment to contact me! While we understand that there are unavoidable reasons for folks to miss the Meetup, when you are late, or miss the event entirely (we start promptly at 4pm) it holds up the entire group, as we wait for everyone to arrive before we begin... Two missed Meetups and you'll get a reminder that we miss you!The third time you miss an event without notifying me beforehand, you'll be dropped from the group without warning. Well, please consider this your warning.
