Startup IQ - Panel Discussion

This informative panel of entrepreneurs will bring first hand insight on struggles of launching and successfully growing a technology startup. We will discuss financing, intellectual property, team building, and many other aspects of creating a thriving startup as well as pitfalls to avoid.

Long Beach Tech Panel Members:

Moderator – Scott Mehler

Scott is a business attorney. He provides advice and guidance, negotiates and structures deals, contracts and major transactions and manages business disputes for his clients. He focuses on and understands the unique needs of clients in the fast-paced and cutting-edge emerging, growth and technology fields and understands the unique challenges facing entrepreneurs.

In addition to traditional legal experience (large, international firms and boutique practices), Scott has practical, hands-on business experience. Scott served as a strategic venture capitalist for a Fortune 50 financial institution, developed and managed a technology incubator for a large, global law firm and was a founding team member of a venture-backed, financial services technology company that was founded by one of the founders of Lending Tree. Scott understands business and entrepreneurs.

Glenn Russell – Entrepreneur and Angel

British born, Glenn settled in the USA in 1980 having worked for IBM. Glenn joined a technology startup in 1983 that eventually went IPO. Since then Glenn has started several technology and internet related companies - some failed, some were sold and others went public via IPO or reverse merger.

Glenn's focus is to nurture fledgling business, help with strategy, people, and the financing and launch into the market. One of Glenn's current companies is Virnetx Holdings, formally Pacific Softworks, that trades today on the American exchange and was the fastest growing stock on the US market in 2012 (symbol VHC).

Brian Newberry – Entrepreneur and angel

Plastic Card International’s President, CEO, and Co-Founder Brian Newberry is an acclaimed expert in the strategic development of youth and teen-targeted advertising, entertainment, and product launches. He is known for an unorthodox approach to designing strategic integrated advertising and marketing campaigns that speak to teen consumers “in their language” to maximize their success.

Prior to starting PCI, Brian co-founded the IKM Agency with a vision to integrate the disciplines of youth and entertainment marketing into a full-service marketing and promotional advertising agency by tying promotions from major record labels, movie studios, and relevant teen brands in with Fortune 500 companies. At IKM, Newberry and his team worked with companies such as American Honda, Bank of America, DIRECTV, Fox Entertainment, MTV, Pepsi, to generate over $2.5 billion in combined annual revenues.

Just a reminder to everyone that the event is tomorrow, Thursday night at 6pm. If you don't think you can make it, please change your RSVP so others can join (because it is currently full). This panel looks to be exceptional. Don't hesitate to say "hi" and introduce yourself to me if we haven't met yet. Cheers~

I'm launching my mobile app in the next 90 days. Looking forward to meeting some interesting people who can help us move from bootstrap mode to the next level.
