LeanCoffeeTO Episode 111 - Recruiting Early Adopters

You have an MVP, now what?  It's not as simple as "If you build it they will come," so let's talk through how to get your first set of users and what to expect from this cohort.

By definition the first users will be early adopters.  These types of users have personality quirks that can be frustrating but can also be used to our benefit.

Early adopters are people that:

. Desperately need your product,
. Want your product to succeed,
. Will give you their time and their honest feedback,
. You trust on them and they trust on you.

Please be prepared for this week's episode with thoughts on the following:

  • What should you expect from early adopters?
  • What is the cost of early adopters?
  • What is the proper way to interact with early adopters?
  • How do you optimize an experience for early adopters?
  • When do  users stop being early adopters?

We are all learning as we go along and it would be awesome if we did a meeting that was focused on sharing personal lessons learned with the Lean Methodology. "If I could it over I would ... ". Some questions that focus the conversation for people sharing personal lessons would be. “I was trying to accomplish X and went about it by method Y thinking that method Y was being lean, Y did not really work because … and I should have done Z.” The goal is to share a personal lean methodology lesson learned that others can benefit from. I am new to the group, so if this has been done before apologies for the repetition. I am suggesting this for the meeting after April 9th.

Let the 'ayes' have it, we have a topic for next week. If anyone has any recommended reading to give a head-start that would be appreciated.

I second Arvid on his topic suggestion.

If a topic hasn't been chosen I'd love to learn about processes/ tools/strategies to identify and discover early adopters. What's the difference between early adopters and people who think your idea/site is cool.
