Walk in the Dales

A gentle 6-8 mile walk from Horton in Ribblesdale, there is an ascent up the side of Ingleborough talking in the valley, dropping quickly into nearby countryside and a picnic by a stream, we then head back into Ribblesdale and walk back along the river in sight of Pen-y-ghent.

I suggest we will meet on Platform 1 of Horton-in-Ribblesdale station at 10am, sorry for the early start but the next train is two hours later. There is a public car park or on street parking nearby if you want to come by car. Suggested train is:

08:49 Leeds [LDS] Platform 9B to 09:58 Horton-in-Ribblesdale [HIR] Platform 2

This walk will go ahead irrespective of the weather so please bring:

walking boots

flask of drink

water proofs

packed lunch

Some climbing of ladder styles will be involved but the pace will be amiable around the 6-8 miles, still you will need to be in a good state of health to undertake the walk. There is an optional pub stop along the river if requested otherwise we will picnic next to a stream which is very picturesque.

This walk is led by volunteers, not professionals, so you take your own risk being on the walk. Any questions or problems on the day please phone John on[masked]

Sophie, can you have a think about any recommendations for Dinan & the surrounding area? I'm going 29th July - 4th August :-)
    See you at the walk!

We are going to aim to get back to get the train at 15:56 at Horton-in-Ribblesdale which gets into Leeds at 17:07. This will depend on the speed of people of course and there are no guarantees. There is a further train back to Leeds at 17:48 which gets in at 19:07. At the last walk when some people needed to get a specific train is point them in the right direction at a time which was convenient to them.

When is the walk likely to finish?

    May 19, 2013

  • Lisa R.

    Salut a tout le monde!
My friend is going to bring her 2 dogs on the walk. They are poodles (big ones, not handbag-sized!), and both very good natured. I'll ask her to keep them on leads, but I just wanted to let everyone know in case anyone is afraid of dogs.
    See you in June :-)
