kayak the des plaines !

  • Nov 11, 2012 · 8:30 AM

A Sunday afternoon paddle ! A beginner paddle in Lemont. We'll meet on the bank of the Des Plaines River just east of Lemont Road and the "railroad bridge" on Canal Bank Road. We'll put the boats in and head up stream, typically I'll go a couple of miles but we'll let the group pace together. The current and water level are both low for this time of year. Hope to see you out there !

Weather pending... :-)

5 stars. Keith the group leader was great. Although windy, Keith made sure safety was a priority. We paddled approximately 5 miles round trip. Being a newbie to kayaking, Keith was informative and great to be with. Looking forward to the next paddle.

I,m confused. Thought it was cancelled because you could not get the boats down. Hope I did not miss it again. Lol. Nice morning if you did get to go.

Hi Rosemary. I keep my personal boat at my house. Our company bought six boats to have on hand as loaners / rentable - the six are stored at a local CrossFit gym. I didn't know the gym put the boats in their rafters for storage. We did have a nice paddle, the wind kept it interesting. :-)

Hi Michael. I'm still game. There's a 20mph wind but it's out of the south so it shouldn't effect us too much. See you out there. Keith

Keith, are we still going this morning?

Hi Keith - I just noticed the time change to 8:30. Is that correct? Also, when I couldn't find you guys last time, you mentioned there would be no fee for me this time. Are you still good with that. If not, just let me know in advance. Thank you.

Hi Rosemary. The gym storing our boats put them up in their attic for the season. I couldn't get them down. I'm happy to still credit you an outing. We're going to have to get the boats moved to an easier spot to get to. It's tough to find accessible storage for six boats !Thanks and I'll lt you know when I get them down. Keith

Hi everyone. Sorry for delay. I'm trying to confirm access to our rentable boats. We had to move them to a different storage facility. I'll know by the end of Saturday. I'm still going to go. Thanks for your patience !

Sophie, Keith is the group leader and he would have the info on any kayaks that would be available. I know he mentioned that there are kayaks available so I would suggest that you contact him regarding this. Hope you can make it. Mike

I would like to go but it looks like rain for Sunday. Would you guys consider an earlier time for Sunday? Say 8 or 9 am? Mornings are good for me along with it being quiet and very peacful along the river in the mornings.
