On Jan. 27th, 2011, Meetup.com launched a secret project code named 'Mayhem Mode'.

They substituted the user interface of their platform with a new one. They called this new user interface 'newmeetup'.  Later it was revealed that this substitution was the outcome of a secret project.  It was also acknowledged that this switch would cause some meetup groups to 'fail'.

They made a wholesale change the user interface of meetup groups around the world. Many organizers were very upset with this and many threatened to leave meetup altogether and move their groups to other platforms. About 2% of these organizers found a 'hidden in plain sight' discussion forum and let everyone know what they thought.

Many others realized that moving their groups would be difficult and would potentially negate all of the work they had done over the lifetime of their groups.

What could they do?

I decided to create this site as a place for the organizers and other web developers to gather and experiment with the new user interface. Many organizers did not want to experiment with their sites, and that is very understandable. The new interface had a ton of bugs in it, and most organizers are not interested in implementing some of the options in the new interface, let alone subject their groups to the bug ridden launch.

This is the place to join (for free) a *newmeetup* group. It is set to what Meetup HQ describes as "low moderation mode", so guess what? you are in charge and I *just* pay for it.

Have fun with it.

Visit the discussion forums to get an understanding of what happens in 'low moderation mode'.

If you are an organizer who intends to move your group to another platform, then this is the place to stay in touch with other meetup organizers and share with them your experience.

If you are a web developer, then this is the place to interact with meetup organizers who are looking for solutions to a problem that was imposed on them.

This group represents a new social network. A network of passionate organizers who created groups using the Meetup platform. A network of people who were successful with that platform and are looking to improve upon it.
