I believe the gay and lesbian population has a large need for a more active parenting group in the Austin Area. We need a group that is inclusive of our families and that includes our strong allies and their families.  As LGBTA, we all have children, older and younger, and we need as parents to socialize and make friends with not only our straight allies but also to have other family friends.  We need to involve the people around us, our allies, our community and our children.

This group is inclusive of all parents but must be tolerant of all parents because... 

I want my child to grow and know families of all types. I want him to know other children his own age and I want him to see how important friendship is.

The purpose of this group is to meet, to interact, to experience and to make memories. It doesn’t matter if you’re shy, new to Austin, been here forever, have tons of friends or have no friends or are simply looking for more activities, this group is inclusive and pretty pumped you’re even considering us.

I want to have at least 3 events that run Monday through Friday. I want at least 1 event a weekend. This way, as a member, you have a chance to go to a meet-up. I believe it’s important to get out there, especially in a large city, to explore everything it has to offer. This is a group that you and your partner can both be a part of. If you’re a single parent, awesome, join and meet other families and single parents just like you!

Depending on the age group of the member’s children, we will try to have many different types of activities that the little ones can do and explore. If you have a toddler, I will try to do at least one toddler activity a week and if you have an older child, I will try to make at least one age appropriate activity each week! I want the weekend events to be a time that our families can come together and meet everyone and have a bbq or spend time at a park or pool and create family friends. Play a sports game or volunteer our time doing a great cause! We could support a local glbt sports team or go to a sprinkler park. The possibilities are endless.

All this group needs is active members that want to log into the site, attend meet-ups and make family friends. If that isn’t something you can do, you probably shouldn’t join! :)   Life does get busy but as a parent, I try to not let life get so busy that I can’t do things with my child at least once a week. Making memories and sharing experiences is a very important aspect of parenting! This group can help you by finding the fun spots for you!

This group requires .25 per family at each event.  This money will be used to donate towards a great cause.  We can vote to use this money towards a charity or towards a gift for needy children at chistmas.  Regardless of what it is used for, it's coming from our family members to be used for a greater good.
