We are a peer-led discussion and support group dealing with emotional health, problems, and wellness; specifically for LGBTQ people. This group is for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Questioning people. We aim to provide a safe, open and non-judgmental environment encouraging members to listen to each other, share experiences, interact, and learn ways to cope, heal and grow, and make friends. We do this in an atmosphere of welcome, acceptance and empathy. We meet the 2nd Thursday of the month at the LGBT Community Center in New York City. We encourage members to talk from our own personal experience. We want the group to be a safe space and we stress confidentiality, as much as is humanly and realistically possible. We encourage interaction, discussion and friendship, but we shy away from telling someone what they should do, and we only give advice or feedback if it is asked for. We discuss anxiety, depression, OCD, loneliness, relationship issues, work issues, etc. We cannot guarantee answers or solutions, but we provide a space to come together to share. (This group is more for support and friendship and talking about our problems and issues; and not for professional networking nor research nor screenplays, etc. People might happen to learn ideas for jobs, but again the focus is on support and coming together.) We meet at a restaurant about two weeks after the center meeting. The restaurant is a less formal, more social get-together. Also, we have recently added a support group meeting at a West Village church on the first Wednesday of the month. (The church has graciously offered us this space to use, but by no means are we advocating any particular religion.)The group is a joint effort among all members. Again, the group is specifically for LGBTQ people. We would like group attendance to reflect the diversity of people who join on here. We have a diverse group of facilitators with respect to gender, age, and ethnicity. If people want to get more info. about the group before joining, please e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you.
