Locksport International - Los Angeles, CA Meetup

Learn about physical security, locks, and locking mechanisms. This month's topic is Master Keying and Interchangeable Cores, a topic I've had a lot of requests for. Learn how locks are master keyed and the various advantages/disadvantages this offers.

I'm ordering a number of SFIC and LFIC (Small/Large Format Interchangeable Cores) for the group, including progressively pinned SFIC cylinders (they are extremely hard to pick fully pinned!).

Impressioning continues into month #4, standings remain the same!

See you all there!

T.J.--do you mean an attempt was made to steal your pickup at the last Locksport meet in March (a month ago)...? Our meetings are on the third Friday of the month...

If yes, then that is the first vehicle theft attempt that I've heard of in the nearly 2 years that I've been attending Locksport meets in L.A. There is so much foot traffic & "eyes" in that parking lot, that I'd find it hard to believe that any thief could be so stupid as to mess with vehicles--especially in THAT lot! Besides, we have a (small) number of smokers in our group, who go downstairs at odd intervals, and WOULD notice suspicious activity (given the various backgrounds of our attendees--alot of security-conscience folks in our group!)...

Maybe, if you want to take a risk, get to the meeting early (6:30-7:00 pm), and park directly in front of the building...then go out to check on your truck several times in the course of the evening...along with the other attendees, we can ALL keep watch on our "babies"...!

I'm sorry, I wasn't implying that the theft happened in that parking lot behind the store front. It happened in Anaheim just last week. they busted the steering column and tried to steal my pickup which made me upset. Is there anyone you know that would like to give me a ride (I'll pay) I'm just not comfortable with parking there.

Aaahhh...now I understand...unfortunately, I live near the Torrance area (I used to live out in the Inland Empire), so perhaps other attendees who live out your way can offer to give you a lift...all the best in continuing to attend Locksport meets! ;-)

I started to attend yesterday, but was very uncomfortable about the parking situation..Last week an attempt was to steal my pickup and caused considerable damage to the column. I would like to carpool with someone from orange, riverside or LA if possible to attend these classes. Anybody interested? call me[masked]

My wife (Alicia) accompanied me again--I wuz stoked!--our daughter ended up going to her youth night event and missed this Meet...

Datagram presented basic lockpicking instruction, which was well-received by everyone and Alicia learned some more concepts that she was not aware of/clear on (e.g., masterkeying theory)...thanks to D.G. for his usual thorough teaching! And, we had some more new folks in attendance--it's always GREAT to see new faces--yay!!

If this keeps up, I may hafta' make excuses to Alicia as to why I can't take her (she's havin' a blast everytime she goes!!)...I may end up with an active apprentice on my hands...heh-heh...! (I am SO jazzed that she's taking an active interest in lock science...it warms the ole heart-cockles...!!)

Thanks, I thought there would be better parking with an attendant. Due to having my car broken into last week, i am withdrawing my attendance. Thankyou for consideration. TJ

Is Friday the 19th for beginners? If I came, it would be my first intro to locks. From the description - I'm already confused!

After getting started with the basics last month, I'm looking forward to learning more--and master keying is just what I was wondering about!

TJ, it's never too late to start. You will need patience and a willingness to learn. Come to a meeting and we will show you what tools you might want to buy or make.
