Signature Canvasing Advice

Hey guys,

I just started canvasing for Steve's congressional run.  I had been hoping to go yesterday when it wasn't in the 90s.  Unfortunately it rained all day.  I canvased for a couple hours this afternoon before the heat go to be to much.  Unfortunately, I didn't have much luck with it.  I tried going door to door and talking to people.   This had pretty minimal success.  I was only getting 1 or 2 people to sign a block.  Is this a normal rate?  I basically just opened up with explaining I wasn't selling anything.  Then I briefly summized that we need 2 % of registered voters to sign.  I dressed fairly decently.  Polo shirt/ khakis.  I was gonna put on some like a blazer and dress pants but its 90 so not happening.  I have yet to try and hang out infront of the post office or township building on a Saturday morning /afternoon.  I figured this would be a good spot to get people and it public property so they can't kick me off. Unfortunately,  I'm moving this month so my time is fairly limited.  So I'm trying to get the most signatures for Steve in the limited time I have to offer.  So whatever strategy works best I would like to focus my energy on.  I know we gotta get this stuff in by Aug 1st.   So for those of you that have done this before (as I have not) have any advice I'd love to hear it.
