What's Important? The Power of Focusing

Why more is less

Columbia Professor Sheena Iyengar found that too many options leave people unable to make forward-moving decisions. She carried out interesting research on consumers in a supermarket who were offered a free tasting of 6 or 24 different varieties of jams. When there were only 6 options, 40% of consumers stopped to taste and 30% bought some jam, contrastingly, when there were 24 options 60% of the customers stopped to taste, but only 3% bought some.

We find options appealing, but they leave us confused and incapable of making a decision.

Most days we can feel overwhelmed by an abundance of choice. And yet we’re faced with a belief that we should be able to make multiple choices almost simultaneously. In truth, this leaves our brain over stressed and exhausted pressured into constantly having to compare and contrast.

Most of us work or function best when we focus on one thing at a time. What’s Important? is all about understanding what it is that you want and prioritizing particular areas of your life. Through this you will find yourself both more efficient and successful.

Stop drowning in options and prepare to achieve as you find out What’s Important.
