Ideas, events and others.....

Hello everyone !

Just as I was contemplating the topic for our next MeetUp, Shabbir sent me a lovely quote from Eleanor Roosevelt, which I think would make a great start to initiate a discussion about 'gossiping'.  What is so fascinating about talking about others ? Do we form bonds through sharing information about others ? Do we get a feeling of 'belonging' to a certain group of people ? Does it make us feel important ?

Here is the quote: “A great mind discusses ideas; an average mind discusses events; a poor mind discusses others.”

And reading this quote reminded me of another one I like (don't know who said it...)

"Gossip need not be false to be evil. There's a lot of truth that should not be passed around"

So, discussing the 'idea' of gossip should make our minds great, what do you think ?

Really enjoyed yesterday's discussion which was lively and informative and provided more positive insights than I had expected from such a topic. Also, everyone contributed .
Carola, my mobile no. is[masked] so text when you have a slot free for coffee on the island next week.

I'm pleased to see mostly familiar faces at our MeetUps, which tells me there is a core of people interested in our discussions and like the group and its members. We had another evening of lively debate and laughter and I think we are all becoming more comfortable with each other. However, that does not mean our group is not open to new comers ! I know it can make one slightly anxious to come into a group where most people already know each other, but I really hope we made everyone feel welcome ! Please let me know if I can do more to welcome new members into the group.
So, as usual there were lots of different ideas and points made regarding 'gossiping' - many things to ponder long afterward.
Thanks Shabbir, for sparking the 'gossip' talk with your quote ! And thanks to everyone for your contributions !
    See you next time.
    Ziggy

And for a blanket statement from Brad Sugars, Entreprenuer and Business coach: "GREAT MINDS discuss Ideas, AVERAGE MINDS discuss events, SMALL MINDS discuss people"

Gossip can unite and create divisions just as war does. I doubt if I can make it across from the island for this discussion but it is bound to be interesting. Ziggy have you given any more thought on starting a Waiheke group? cheers

Hi Ziggy, yes on the island now in capervan, actually in my caravan at Rocky Bay. Planning to build so relaly island based and focused. I think we should look at starting an island group for meaningful cafe discussions. We already have 4 people! Sorry I have a photography meeting Thursday night. Won't make it over. Bye Judy

    Good topic.
Shabbir's quote is from Socrates and yours is from Frank H.Clark - an American screenwriter. Bertrand Russell said: 'No one gossips about other people’s secret virtue'. Maybe we should try that for a change.
