Why are we here ? What is our purpose ? Do we come back ?

So everybody, ready to tackle a 'Big Question' ? Jeff suggested the topic for our next discussion: Why are we here? Do humans have a special purpose here on earth ?  Do we need one ? Do we have to make our own 'meaning of life' ? So come with or without religious beliefs, your view on re-incarnation, design of the Universe etc.

Some good literature that deals with these questions:

Spontaneous Evolution (Lipton/Bhaermann)

War of the world views (Chopra/Mlodinow)

The Things that nobody knows - 501 mysteries of Life,Universe and everything (Hartston)

Religion for Atheists (Alain de Botton)

What do we really know ? (Simon Blackburn)

The Big Questions (Lou Marinoff)

Dark Nature (Lyall Watson)

Looking forward to seeing you soon and listening to your opinions ☺

It's not easy to tackle the Big Questions, but people with inquisitiveness and fascination for the the universe's (including us) incredible existence will always ask them. We may never find an answer, but it's fun asking and exchanging our ideas about them.

    What do you think?

Interestingly, everything that you and I explain and believe comes from our brain..... our brain. The human brain. Nature is beautiful, people are beautiful and the human brain is beautiful.... it creates our reality and look at this website: It is human history:

    Religion = politics

Hi Jeff, Thanks for your comments and questions, that should get the discussion going ! And the link to Dr. E. Alexander was interesting. There is so much more out there than we will ever be able to grasp.

Unless of course there is a meaning/purpose that is felt strongly by some and not by others. When I suggested the topic I had the following questions in mind:
When we look around nature it is easy to see elements of a design; Are we just a cellestial teenagers science experiment? Are we here simply to experience? If we are as good as we can be, will we be rewarded when we die? Will we come back? Do we progress post life or is that just a human idea? Did we choose to come here knowing we will be ignorant of our source? If so, did we know the chaos and pain that has been directly caused by this ignorance?mOr could all of this, as Neuroscientist Kerry Spackman suggests, be one possibility out of quadrillions of random possibilities which would fit somewhere on a normal distribution curve? (Note: Neuroscientist Dr Eban Alexander is promoting his book titled: 'Proof of Heaven')
These are the questions to ponder..

The brain creates our reality, our thoughts, our perceptions and has helped us to adapt as a species and evolve into what we are today. The brain wants to make sense of the world around it and give things.... (thoughts, feelings, visions, etc.) a "meaning". History continues to repeat itself and humans still remain ignorant and divided because of cultural beliefs, religious beliefs and political beliefs. The question should be: "what will it take to bring us together as a species to make the world a better place for the children of 2112 - What will it take?" - Michele Jean

I have the feeling that the moment we get the answer, we will cease to care what it is :)
