  • The Austin Linux Meetup

Not the place for me. Seems like they are all experienced admins. I am trying to learn. I've been using Linux for over 15 years, but my needs are simple. I am extremely flexible and frequently do things others are not. For instance, my Apache is 2.4. I've been leaving selinux enabled for over 5 years now. This group is way over my head, though. I'm very interested in a talk on regular expressions, but I think I'll pass.

Great! I always get useful information and meet interesting people. My only criticism is that the venue is getting over crowded.

Good, would have loved to arrive earlier, but was held back by client call and did not get time to arrive earlier. :(

  • The Austin Linux Meetup

This was my first meeting, and I will probably go back. It might be geared more for system administrators than I need, as I am only interested from a hobby perspective.

  • The Austin Linux Meetup

It was a nice informative overview, great for beginners to the Unix/Linux environment. Could definitely stand deeper technical level, or maybe break out into Beginner overview meeting, followed by a deeper tech meeting on the same topic.

  • The Austin Linux Meetup

After having attended a couple of meetings, I can say I found each one interesting. I learned something new at each one. I found the presenters to be quite knowledgeable and look forward to someday getting back to attending. This is a great group and I recommend it to anyone interested in the LAMP based subjects they review.

Pretty awesome that people are doing little demonstrations and talks. Makes me want to become good enough at one little thing to do a little demo and lead a little discussion.

  • The Austin Linux Meetup

There is a lot that can be gained from meeting in person. Linux, in my opinion, is very strong in choice and adaptability, but at a cost of the kind of documentation and exposure that other OS users are used to. Many hours of frustration can be circumvented by getting together in the same room as people that have met and struggled with particular solutions similar to your own. Once you know where to find things in Linux, the OS is just as usable, if not much more -- as most of the software that you would want to run is without cost and downloaded from repositories that people all over the world work to safeguard.
