RUFF (Rescues United For Fun) Meetup

Calling San Francisco's small rescue dogs for a new meetup on the first Saturday of each month at 11:30 am in Pine Lake Dog Park in Stern Grove.

If you have a small rescue dog and want to meet other rescues and their parents, please join us for off-leash play and schmoozing.

Don't worry if your dog is quirky; ours are, too!

RUFF co-organizer Shannon Bolt of The Domestic Animal has worked with shelter and rescue dogs for years. She specializes in special-needs animals and will be on hand for advice and assistance.

All rescue dogs who weigh less than 30 pounds — the mutt-ier, the better; but we won't discriminate against purebreds — and their adult people (this is not the place for children; many small dogs, especially those with issues, are afraid of kids) are welcome.

We'll have a RUFF sign, so look for us in the field west of the parking lot.

For those who couldn't make it, we're sorry we missed you since today was both beautiful and adorable. Luckily, we'll be doing it again next month! After the fun we had today, a month almost seems too long to wait...

SOOOOOO much fun today!! Lots of wonderfully quirky littles and lovely parents who know how complicated our little loves can be. Thank you for coming. We look forward to seeing you next month. XO—Ezra's mom

Sorry for canceling at the last minute. I just woke up so we won't be there in time.

I saw a link to details about park in the comments. I think Abby would love it! We can't make it this month, but next month we are finally free!

Anyone who's interested in acquiring a non-retractable long line, they are available at Pet Food Express in various lengths. Unfortunately PFE only sells wide long lines with heavy buckles. Check Jeffrey's North Beach and Duboce Tri locations, as well as Noe Valley Pet Supply for narrower, lighter versions. They are also available online at cleanrun.com.

I picked one up from Jeffrey's in Castro. Pretty light, 30 ft. I got their last one so FYI.

And I always forget that I can CALL AHEAD before I haul down to the shop to find out Elsie got the last one... ;)

I assumed it was a fenced in dog park, and my dog is a "runner" if he sees a squirrel or other critter. Therefore, I'm going to have to change my RSVP to a no. :-(

Michelle - I've only found a couple fenced in places I've liked in SSF, nothing in the city so far.

Michelle, we do not recommend retractable leashes for playing with other dogs. Make sure your dog has a body harness so he can run on the non-retractable long-line safely. Fenced in dog runs present a ripe environment for behavioral problems. Even if there was an appropriate option, we wouldn't go there. I haven't seen any creatures roaming around Pine Lake Park, but we'll have multiple long lines to set your dog up for success!

If you take a right on Vale from Sloat, you will end up in the parking lot right next to the dog play area. You can't miss us!

Where is the best area to park to be near this area? Which streets?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
