July Full Moon Ceremony

DuPont Park (map)

Selected By: Joy

It's time to find the fireflies... wade in the creek... create a hidden circle under the full moon and canopy of leaves. This is an open and public Full Moon Rite not to miss. It does involve a drive to an out-of-the-way open space, a 500 ft walk through tall grass and cottonwood trees, down into the wide and sandy creek bed of Plum Creek. Be prepared to get a little wet, deal with some mosquitoes, and get some sand in your shoes, but I guarantee it's worth it!

Planning the ritual will begin at 7pm, so if you feel called to co-create the ceremony please do so - no experience required. If you are not wanting to help plan or lead the ritual, please gather at 8:30pm inside the park - do not linger at the parking area along the road so as not to interfere with traffic or bother the locals, and we'll walk down together to the creek.

Bring a sack or backpack with a towel to dry your feet and possibly a change of shoes/sandals, mosquito repellent (there are some good natural ones to try), a flashlight or lantern, and layers of clothing for any possible weather. Drums or rattles are welcome. Due to the environment, we do not recommend this for younger children (our full moons tend to be adults only anyway due to the late hour).

Volunteers needed to bring cakes and wine/ale/mead, electric tiki torches or extra lanterns. Make a note in your RSVP if you can bring any of these or will be there to plan the ritual at 7. Suggested Donation $5 is appreciated but not required.

Is there a "rain" meeting place? According to the weather report we are supposed to have severe thunder storms and lightning (again) tonight.
    Thank you for your reply.

Great suggestion! If it's raining hard, we can move over to the picnic shelter. I am up for still doing it by the stream if it's light drizzle. We'll have a thick canopy of trees there. I am uploading a file to the Files section (go to meetup.com/livingearth and click on More - Files to view it) with a map of the park so you can see where to find the shelter. Basically keep going on main street if there are no cars at the place past the bridge where we are supposed to meet, and it's on the left.

Najah drew down the Goddess with the most heartfelt and inspiring Charge of the Goddess I have ever been honored to witness. AND - it was done while we were all standing up to our ankles in the gurgling stream - AND the fireflies appeared and danced for us, in and around the circle.... We chanted, we let go, we found ourselves renewed, and our hearts opened to Worship through complete and utterly joyful immersion in this secret place of Earth's beauty and abundance. As we exalted and reveled in the waters, both the stream and the gentle mist of raindrops that periodically graced us, our need to commune with and honor the Goddess and her Consort and let go into that experience was fulfilled. The "cakes and ale" ended up being brownies and Blue Moon ale, which ended up being a really good combination! We all decided this had to be an annual event - so if you've never seen Colorado lightning bugs while doing a ritual in the water at a perfect secluded spot, join us in July 2012.
