Can I say all of the above? I don't claim to be the most knowledgeable about the issues, as my day job and other interests (I'm a self-professed sports and hiking nut) take up a great deal of time, but I am very passionate about the earth being clean, and so many issues tie into that. With everything I do, I think about the environmental impact I'm making. That means only eating local produce and meats, because of the horrible fumes caused by factory farming. That means supporting wind and solar power because of the co2 and methane pumped into the atmosphere and water sources by coal and natural gas, respectively. That means refusing to buy or accept new plastic bags, plastic cups or paper napkins to reduce my impact on the earth. I reuse everything as much as possible. I know that I live environmentally consciously, now I'd like to meet others with similar views and share ideas, perspectives and, when possible, work to raise awareness about these issues.
Besides picking up trash when I'm walking around the neighborhood, I have no experience either volunteering or working in this area.
I joined because I want to meet like-minded young adults with similar views and share perspectives and stories. I feel that I will really enjoy spending time with them. I also joined because I think this group could lead me to becoming active as a volunteer raising awareness about the critical issues that impact our precious earth that I so enjoy.
While I can't lay claim to having the smallest carbon footproint (I do own a car, although it's a Civic and I only use it when necessary; otherwise, I bike), I strive to be as much of a tree hugger as possible — no plastic bags, no paper napkins, etc
