DOUBLE HEADER ON April 20 when the Open Music Ensemble will present Yoga With Live Music from 7-8-30 and Music and Meditation from 8:30-10PM at NYIMC. Admission: $15 for one or $20 for both. Join us with your friends then.
Danielle Katz, a certified yoga instructor at the 200 hour level and an experienced teacher, will lead the asanas. Danielle incorporates breath-work and the spirit into her classes, which vary from vinyasa to restorative. She currently studies Ashtanga yoga in the tradition of Sri. K Pattabhi Jois and is pursuing a degree in nutrition and food science at Hunter College in Manhattan. she has led Music for Yoga with the Ensemble at JCC and at NYIMC and looks forward to seeing you on Saturday.
Acoustic musical accompaniment this Saturday will be provided by Ensemble members Nicole DeVault on harp, Ken Silverman on oud and guitar, and possibly one or more guest musicians. Yogis of all levels are welcome. We do not have mats, so please bring your own mat with you.
Music and Meditation is structured as follows. After a brief introduction with meditation instruction, the musicians will play improvised acoustic music which the audience is invited to use as the focus of meditation. Participants may also engage in any other contemplative, quiet activity such as yoga or journaling while the musicians perform. Musicians move about throughout the space as the audiences engages in their activities of choice. At the end, musicians and audience are invited to share their experiences of the evening.
The Ensemble has performed for yoga at the Global Mala Yoga for Peace, where it’s “heart and sweet sounds filled the air”, the Yoga Festival, and regularly at the Yoga and Raw Food Expo, and performs monthly for meditation.
