This is a Veteran's Day Hike requested by Nancy from Pacific Palisades
The Rivas Canyon Trail connects Temescal Canyon and Will Rogers State Historic Park. We will begin at Temescal Gateway Park. We will climb a circuitous route up the eastern ridge of Temescal Canyon and then promenade down into Rivas Canyon. Continuing through riparian and oak woodland vegetation toward Will Rogers and past the Polo Grounds we will head up Rustic Canyon, perhaps do that loop, stop at Inspiration Point and return to Temescal.
Hike will be 8-10 miles with moderate elevation gain.
Directions
Temescal Gateway Park is located in Pacific Palisades, just one mile north of Pacific Coast Highway at the intersection of Temescal Canyon Road and Sunset Boulevard.
From Los Angeles, take the Santa Monica Freeway (10) West until it becomes Pacific Coast Highway(PCH). Continue West on PCH. Turn right (North) on Temescal Canyon Road and continue for 1 mile. You enter the park immediately after crossing Sunset Boulevard.
From the San Fernando Valley, take Topanga Canyon Boulevard South to Pacific Coast highway(PCH). Turn left (East) on PCH. Go Left (North) on Temescal Canyon Road and continue for 1 mile.
Park in second lot closest to the Camp Store (see map in Files section). We will meet on the lawn next to Camp Store. Bring at least $7.00 exact change for parking. There is some free curb parking on the other side of Sunset on Temescal.
Bring 2 qts water, hat, sunscreen, lugsoles.
Hey Ken, I am up for carpooling. That may be the only way you'll get me there. I'm feeling very lazy!
You have more energy and star wattage in your smile than 10 people combined Laurie! I'll e-mail you. I'm glad there's another soul out there who cares about our planet (unlike the other rat bastards here). LOL! ; -)
Hey, I would have offered you a ride Drew. I just didn't know if you were for real or just using that as an excuse to get out of this hike like you see so many people say they've suddenly come down with a case of Herpes Simplex 6 and crap like that the day before the hike...
No, not Herpes Simplex ... actually, my car came down with a PTD (Pipe-ually Transmitted Disease) when it had close contact. The doctor at the body shop says it's curable (whew!) but it ain't cheap. The dentectomy begins Wednesday and surgury is expected to take three days.
It's the Herpes Simplex 6 isn't it Drew? We knew it all along... =)
Yes, Ken, I couldn't hide the sores with makeup anymore so I had to figure out some lame excuse ... blame it on the car ... gotta admit, I was imaginative! ;)
Armond, It was really nice meeting you and your daughter!
Oh, also wanted to mention it was great meeting all the father & daughter hikers today; that is so cool to hike w/family. Larry, stop picking on Elyse until you get a professional camera and take as nice pics as Elyse, which won't happen. Dean - Laurie and I were wondering what the total hike distance was or if you're going to post a hike report? Thanks!
Hike was 7.9 miles. Net elevation gain was 500'. Total gain was about 1600'. I am working on a new format for the formal hike reports.
Oh my ... I missed another good one. Thanks, Sara and Elyse, for allowing me to enjoy it from afar. After the visit with my dissertation chair yesterday afternoon I knew I had to work and could not enjoy it. I'll be along for sure Thursday... what a pretty walk. Sorry I missed you, Nancy.
Beautiful images, indeed, colorful, beautiful flowers, roots, fallen trees, and anemic streams... Thank you Sara and Elyse. You made me miss the hikes! ...Even Dean's speedy hikes!
Elyse, Ken and Larry, thank you for your kind comments on my posted images. It was nice to have the opportunity to capture few images from the beautiful scenery and the group.
Armond, sorry, I didn't notice your name linked to the pictures displayed.
