Malibu Creek State Park: 35 Years

Malibu Creek State Park is celebrating 35 years

Malibu Creek State Park was opened to the public in 1976 on land previously
owned by 20th Century Fox movie studios, Ronald Reagan, and Bob Hope.
Ronald Reagan owned his ranch from 1951 to 1967. The park has a rich history
of film and TV production starting in 1919 and continuing to this very day. Over
100 films and television shows have been shot in the park. Remnants of this
history are still present from the M*A*S*H movie and television series and Planet
of the Apes. The set of the legendary M*A*S*H television series continues to
draw thousands of fans from around the world every year.

Today the Park is a naturalists’ haven with a campground, day hiking, picnicking,
bird watching, fishing, biking, and seasonal displays of wildflowers. Beautiful
Century Lake offers fishing with a valid California fishing license.

The park is open daily from 8:00 AM to dusk, with a Visitor Center open on
weekends. The Visitor Center has maps, cold drinks, and souvenirs for sale as
well as naturalist displays, a children’s center for the enjoyment of children and
their parents, and educational material. There are docent led events throughout
the year, including nature walks, school visits, Earth Day celebrations, and
campground weekend campfire programs.
