BMHS hike this Sunday at Villa Montalvo County Park and Art Center

Our much needed rain is finally in the forecast. After a few days of rain, hope we can have our hike at the tail end of the rainSunday afternoon.

Villa Montalvo is not big, but with several twisted figure eight paths, we can get quite a bit of workout on more sheltered trails with easy access to retreat in case of rain or early out. The trails are mostly covered with pine needles and leaves, and hopefully will not be too muddy.

Meet 12:30 PM at the first parking lot as you enter the Villa. Villa Montalvo is at 15400 Montalvo Road, Saratoga, CA 95071

Bring rain gear, snack and water.

Heavy rain cancels (light rain does not).

Built in 1912, Villa Montalvo was the country home of James D. Phelan, the three-term San Francisco mayor and first popularly-elected senator from California. Named in honor of the 16th-century Spanish writer Garcia Ordonez de Montalvo who coined the name “California,” this beloved estate was frequented by poets, writers, artists and performers during Phelan’s lifetime. Today, Montalvo has an extensive performing art program including concerts, exhibitions of Sculpture on the Grounds and a resident artist program. Besides hiking trails, it has beautiful gardens and arboretum.
