San Jose Cool Cities Team Meeting

  • Apr 7, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

The Sierra Club Cool Cities Campaign is dedicated to "Solving Climate Change One City At a Time".

We are very active in the San Jose Envision 2040 General Plan and support the Mayor's Green Vision. We speak up at task forces and Council meetings, host the Green Vision Cafe Community, and partner with organizations including Silicon Valley Leadership Group and The Greenbelt Alliance. Please join us if you live near San Jose and want to help create a more livable climate friendly community!

The primary environmental goal tasked to Cool Cities Teams is to get cities to implement meaningful climate change solutions. Goals that teams are currently working toward include:

1. Conduct an inventory of greenhouse gas emissions in your city.
2. Support the adoption of a Climate Action Plan.
3. Support the creation of great neighborhoods near transit to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and preserve open space with the support from our Sustainable Land Use Committee and Transportation Committee.
4. Adoption of a city-wide ban on single use bags and polystyrene
5. Promote home energy upgrades through our Green Buildings for Cool Cities campaign
6. Provide regular environmental education community events

The Sierra Club Cool Cities San Jose team is a coalition of organizations and citizens working together to support the City in its efforts to reduce municipal greenhouse gas emissions and to extend that effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions city-wide.

Over the next few months, the team's main emphasis will be on building awareness in the community and business about climate change and its effects on San Jose.

What can you do to help address climate change in our area?

This is the Cool Cities regular monthly meetings. I'm willing to chat on the phone to discuss this in more details, however.
