DAYHIKERS: Alum Rock Park, Sierra Vista Open Space. Approx 18 mi, 3500ft gain

We'll start 8:15am, Alum Rock Park's Eagle Rock parking lot. Entrance free to the park is $6/car.  Come see a ranch house with a stunning and a very out of place redwood tree; visit mineral springs; spend a day in grassland, riparian and even chaparral habitats; and look for early wildflowers.  We start in Alum Rock Park, climb the Boccardo Trail and enter Sierra Vista Open Space. NOTE: this hike will be less strenuous than last year's. Instead of going to the very end of Sierra Vista, we will be exploring Alum Rock's stunning south rim. Bring lunch and water for the day. HEAVY RAIN CANCELS. CONTACT LEADERS directly if you've not hiked with Dayhikers before now. Sierra Club asks you to sign their usual liability waiver.

LEADERS: Joerg Lohse, [masked]; Fred Kremerskotter, [masked]

I did some scouting for this hike there with a friend today. The south rim and creek trails were closed upstream from the farthest parking lot. A police car stood guard and we were turned around. The cop said they were recovering a body. He did not know how long that would take but all trails are expected to be open again for our hike on Saturday.

Any chance we ca move the start time by 15 minutes to half hour? I will be rushing back from SF after a Photography early bird meetup so could use the cushion. If not, then its ok, at worst I would miss this. Thanks.

The schedule is fixed and published in advance. Unfortunately, it can't accommodate everyone's personal wishes. If you have ever tried to coordinate a meeting of 20+ people all with different schedules you will appreciate why this is not a practical suggestion. FYI the schedule is published in various locations including the chapter calendar and sierra club members who are not necessarily on Meetup also join these hikes.

Does anyone have an extra seat in their vehicle? I can pay my share for gas.

Hi Sarah, there will be a carpool from Page Mill Rd/280 Park and Ride at 7:30am. Since it's a "no-host" carpool the hike leader won't be at the P&R. People turn up and "self-organize" into carpools. Since you're new to this group perhaps it'd be best to contact Joerg Lohse directly to ask if he knows if anyone will be at the P&R (his email is in the announcement). BTW I'm not planning to join this hike.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
