Quieter, City pub social

  • Jul 17, 2013 · 7:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

We came here for the regular monthly social back in June 2008, and if we can pull some nice weather out of hiding, it will make a good venue again as it has loads of space. Its right by Blackfriar's bridge (south side of the river) and some areas inside have views across the river.

The pub has a patio outside, so if the weather is good we can congregate out there (the Terrace bar, 2 floors up from ground) if its not booked out, and I'll be aiming for that. Otherwise we'll be inside in a bar lower down. Look out for meetup logos and me with my 6' slim frame and long hair if you've not been before - and take my phone number or risk wasting your trip and not finding us! Be ready that you might need to walk up a few floors too depending where we are, it has 5 floors though some might be booked out/too busy for us. So, note my number and we'll try to be in an area with cell reception!

The place is pretty big and I believe it gets quite busy, especially in nice weather.

Doggett's is well served by public transport:

Waterloo Station is a 10 minute walk away, Blackfriars and Southwark stations are minutes away. London bus routes 45, 63,100 & RV1 run to and from stops within yards of the pub (its on the west side of the road, ie. same side as north-bound traffic heading over the river).

Didn't take long to find us I presume; sorry your friend wasn't ready to come. Tell them they could just have been along as a supporting friend or something with no assumptions made regarding their bi status

Those who didn't turn up - why not? Lovely evening!

Too hot and tired to even think about leaving the house until gone 9pm! I may try to make Greedy next weekend, that sounds more my speed :)

      July 17, 2013

    • John G

Thanks for the explanation. There were still folk there til after 10.30 (though some did leave earlier) and the O Bar meet usually runs even later so don't be afraid to turn up later. Greedy is great, though has been a bit random and eclectic music for the first few events. The crowd is good.

Hi Gracey! Was that you at Doggett's? It's true it was just the two of us women, until Farah & Ammelle turned up later, but expect some had had a hot & tiring commute, so didn't fancy going out again. OBar is usually more balanced. I'll talk to (almost) anyone, me! :-)

Its a difficult one especially this week as some people are off to Bicon this weekend. Also we already have several regular monthly events with large Bi focus: 1st Tuesday - London Poly meetup, 1st Sat - Bi Coffee, 2nd Tuesday - Bisexual Underground, 3rd Wed - London Poly Women, 4th Thursday - London Bisexual

      July 16, 2013

    • John G

Another reason to pick Wednesday! :) Plenty of non poly-women to come still.

Am in the bar, on top floor, "terrace bar" (floor below is locked, one below that is eating-only). so keep going upstairs/ask how to get here, I'm round corner on right with a red/black meetup logo (home-printed, A4) sign on the table. Come join us (also note I'm dressed smart from work and with my long hair loose) with this great weather and view!

I appreciate that John does his best to arrange events for members of London bisexuals. Though for some reasons I have not been able to make most of the events, I appreciate his efforts. I can't please everyone all the time and keep myself sane. His top priority should be and without any guilt be in the interest of the group as a whole. He has been doing a great job of this group for as back 2010 when I first went to the group meet-up(upstairs' of O Bar).

I think I might try to make this as well, as a first timer. If anyone sees a purple haired girl walking around looking confused, that'll be me :)

Would this be a good meet for a first time attendee? I've been trying to make one for months now but I always end up with some obligation on the day/morning after... +1 for Wednesdays!

    July 3, 2013

    • John G

Our bar meets usually are. It might not be as busy as the main O Bar meetup (which gets 50-80 folk each time), but they're always good atmospheres and friendly and chatty and you'll feel like you fit in within no time at all!

      July 4, 2013

    • John G

Mind you almost all our meets are suitable for first-time folk like yourself, we get plenty of new people at every one of them. For big public events or where you're in an audience its not quite as easy, but still not a problem if you're ready to make an effort to talk to people and find us (and are prepared with phone number/way to meet someone from the group before)..

Here's a particularly useful page on the areas in the pub and pics of each bit: http://www.nicholsonspubs.co.uk/doggettscoatandbadgesouthbanklondon/barsanddiningrooms/

Since I'm always complaining about the noise levels at OBar, think I should support this :-) Also don't think I've spoken to anyone before who's signed up so far and I tend to be lazy at OBar & chat to people I already know! Think the female/male balance needs addressing too ;-)

    July 5, 2013

  • John G

Hmm this is still so quiet. It might also be tight scheduling _again_ for my day (yes, I'm a busy guy - do you see why there aren't more regular events I run for the group and others are at random?!!). So..

Wondering about moving it yet again and featuring it more on the site - would you guys turn up if there only the 5 of us / less - from previous experience I'm thinking half of you might not, and 2 or 3 at a meet is just not worth doing for me (unless someone else really wants to make it happen)...

    June 30, 2013

    • John G

And.. tada! on the announcement.. Cos this event has been moved a few times and after the original announcement of it, meetup thinks its been announced and won't do it again so I did a custom message. should help!

      July 3, 2013

    • Neil

Great :-). I can only go out occasionally on a Thursday/Friday/Saturday, plus I like traditional pubs, so this event is ideal for me! I'm hoping for a warm, dry evening on the 17th...

Moving it again - friend's birthday party then.

With only 5 rsvps and being so close, needs to build a bit more - sorry guys if this upsets your schedules. Please change rsvp if you can't make it now.

Hi, I think I'm going to reschedule this as I can't make the 12th now and I'd like to be here; it also a little close to the picnic Max is organising the weekend before.
