BiCon 2014 (in Leeds)

Leeds, Aug 1st-3rd 2014

Short Link: ow.ly/1ZKasH

This year Leeds hosts the 32nd UK BiCon! If you come to the group to meet more bisexuals, expecting to meet maybe 40-60 each time, then how much better is coming to meet a few hundred?!

(more venue details (via the BiCon site)). The workshops and talks start at ??am but the socialising goes on all day.

If you want to do the whole weekend then go ahead, you can get a full weekend ticket too at a discount (I think). There's always local accommodation you can book ahead via the organisers which is shared by many others, usually self-catering. That makes it easier to stay on site and get to know more people there, not worrying so much about late night travelling around and so on.

Tickets

Tickets are between £10-£23(ish) for the day (or weekend tickets are available) depending on your income. You can also turn up and buy them on the door and they cover all events on the day (obviously not food/drinks though).

Events

There are talks and events (eg. workshop sessions) going on throughout the whole weekend - examples from previous years are "Bi Literature", "Bis on Screen", "Saving Bi History", there's been a room for Hugs, talking about coming out or not, and space for your own open discussions or themes that come up on the day.

The evenings switch over to a party!

Info Links

For further details on the weekend, venue, and programme of events, see http://www.bicon2014.org.uk/

Don't know anything about it? The 'New to' page will tell you the basics, and the general BiCon page (ie. not year-specific) is at http://bicon.org.uk/

* From one of our members... "There's nothing like being immersed in community for a whole weekend"

* From the bicon site: "One year someone theorised that no matter what your hobby or interest is, there will be someone at BiCon into that too." (they couldn't disprove that after a few hours at the bar).

Useful links to read (you're asked to sign up to the code of conduct when you get your pass anyway, so read it now and save time later - if the link is kept the same as previous years):

I had a really good BiCon (my 7th). Dancing, socialising, a party @ the flat of the Cool Bisexuals (my opinion). Went to one official session - body painting.

Disabled access at the venue was good but patchy (dodgy lift in a crucial place).

Hi everybody. I really want to go to Bi con but have probably left it to late as I'm not sure what the plan is with the group if people are staying over or going for one day. I've never been to any London bi groups yet and have not been to bi con before so bit nervous about going on my own. I live in Birmingham so that's why I have not been able to attend anything yet with this group but hope to soon as I travel to Brighton regularly to visit my friend. So hoping to be able to make a meet soon. Sorry for long message lol

Hey Annabelle. You might want to check out the Brum Bi Coffee meets, which will be nearer to home :)

And it can be worth dropping the BiCon organisers an email in case any rooms are available - every year people cancel at the last minute!

Saw one comment on twitter: There'll be fabric pens in the craft space at @bicon2014 so bring a whitish T-shirt (or hat or bag or...) and make your own #bicon souvenir!

On site accommodation is likely full now so you will need to find somewhere to stay for the duration. Go check out their website for details.
