Quieter, City pub social next to the Thames

  • Oct 17, 2013 · 7:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

This pub social worked well in July with a very pleasant summer evening and view across the river, and September's was even bigger (though we were downstairs as upstairs was booked out). The venue has loads of space on 5 floors so be ready to go upstairs to find us, where I'll prefer to be if we can (often floor 2/3 are closed but keep going up if you haven't spotted us). Alternatively we'll be inside somewhere lower down. Its right by Blackfriar's bridge (on the South side of the river, West side of the road ie. North-bound side heading across the bridge) and some areas inside have views across the river.

Its a free event, just like all our others. So come along and look out for a meetup logo nearby (on a table probably, so you might need to walk round the people) and me (6' slim frame and long hair, even longer than my pic) if you've not been before - and take my phone number or risk wasting your trip and not finding us (or asking lots of folk if they're the meetup group - but I'm pretty recognisable from my photo here)! Be ready that you might need to walk up a few floors too depending where we are, it has 5 floors though some might be booked out/too busy for us. So, note my number and we'll try to be in an area with cell reception!

The place is pretty big and it can get quite busy, especially in nice weather.

Getting there

Doggett's is well served by public transport:

The bus stop for Blackfriars Station South(stop 'C') is right outside, and its easy to get to from Blackfriars(if you exit at the south end!)/Southwark/Waterloo stations.

Waterloo Station is a 10 minute walk away, Blackfriars and Southwark stations are minutes away. London bus routes 45, 63,100 & RV1 run to and from stops within yards of the pub (its on the west side of the road, ie. same side as north-bound traffic heading over the river).

Pub (ales) review:

Pub layout/info on each bar/dining area - we hope to be upstairs in Terrace Bar but it depends how busy/open it is:

Hi all. We're ground floor in a cosy alcove near the back door next to the river. Meetup sign on table, and booked for us.

Was good to have that section to ourselves this time, instead of being squished in by the entrance/exit! :-)

Sorry I can't make it - I'm not well this evening. Hope to see you at the next one! Lx

Hi all. The upstairs bars are busy for functions again, but spoke to someone there and they'll see if they can book us a table under my name from 7.30. Look for me/the meetup logo on a table but on first couple of floors. See you there!

It'll be my first meeting if I can finish work in time (:

Would love to attend but over booked.

Emma, think he means he is overbooked, not our event - there's no limit for this one (not many of our events have RSVP limits that we'll be breaking anytime soon, its only Xmas and other booked/seated events where I care about people being more honest if they're coming).

Thank you so much Emma for thinking about me. I forgot that I've to attend an open university tutorial class after work on that day. I'll try my best to see you all on the 24th. Until then take care and live the life in full.

This will be my first attempt to attend a meeting. Looking forward to it. Is there any cost involve for the meeting?

    October 6, 2013

    • John G

Nope! Our socials are always free (unless it says so clearly in the event details). But its nice sometimes when members offer to buy me a drink at events (it costs a little bit every month to run the group but not enough that I worry about it).

I can't ever remember having an event that I charged people to attend - of course things like dinners and shows you need to pay to get in, but everyone does that individually usually.

Sorry, I will need to work outside of London this Thurs, sadly. Have fun! :)

I'm on call to be working on this evening, but might go another time.
