Christmas Party

  • Dec 14, 2012 · 8:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Love it, hate it, or ignore it, Christmas is nearing (*) again. So come and have a lovely dinner evening with us for our last meet of the year, I hope you can join the group for a dinner (and optional drinks) to meet more of our group, old and new, and celebrate with us another year of great meets and the group going from strength to strength on Friday 14th December. There will be a lot of new members again and probably a good number of regulars too, so don't feel afraid to make this your first meet if you know you can come and enjoy dinners/chat/non-bar meets. But do please treat your rsvp seriously for this event as it involves a lot more organising and money than our usual (free) meets.

We're eating Chinese style at New World, upstairs in a room for us (an earlier booking should be finished by then). They who have a lot of space and where the group has dined a couple of times before successfully (though with fewer of us at once). With food as the conversation lubricant and ice-breaker, it will be a break from the usual bar atmosphere. The dining area is open plan. We've been to New World before as a group with a few people and enjoyed it.

I have booked the dinner and paid a deposit, so as I've said, PLEASE KEEP YOUR RSVP UPDATED if you change your mind. This is so that other guests don't lose out on the spaces available, the restaurant can give us the right table space, and I'm not out of pocket - avoid last-minute changes if you can help it. If you have a Yes RSVP but do not turn up for booked events like this, it can count against you for certain group events in the future.

Menus

The two menus are finally available (click to download the documents from the "Files" section for our group).

The set menu (3 choices, £16.80 to 23.80)

The main (regular) menu.

Choosing set menus on a per-table(min.5) basis has been suggested as a good way to get served quicker and make payment easier at the end. Individual orders will slow things down. If you'd like to meet beforehand, see Abdul's comments about Costa coffee on the event page. Please be on time, especially if you'd like one of the set-menus. The restaurant does alcohol (typical chinese beers) and soft drinks, green tea etc. - obviously biased to chinese options.

PS: There is no regular 4th Thursday meet this month as usual for Christmas, as its too awkwardly placed. Fancy a new year's meet/party? Suggest it/start one off!

Glad you decided to join us! See you there, this is one of the few my wife attends every year too.

      What happened?

      December 20, 2012

Well done John, for organising a five star event, during the busiest point of the year. It was great meeting Victoria and the others I got to speak to at the table. I hope the after-party was a good one! Happy Christmas.

Hi john, really sorry but i am running half an hour late. I will be having the cheapest set menu (£16.90?)

    December 14, 2012

    • John G

We'd barely ordered by the time you got there, so all went fine. Thanks for the update.

Great company, it was my first time but everyone was very welcoming. It will not be the last and look forward to the next one in January

Thanks! Look forward to seeing you there.

Great choice of restaurant, but felt that it was a bit awkward to mingle, so perhaps could have gone for a drink of some kind at some point to help with this.

    1 · December 17, 2012

    • John G

That's the difference with dinner meets, particularly with so many of us - its hard to talk to the majority on other tables. Not impossible, just requires more effort and less eating time. Also, everyone filled up the seats available except for the last table; if I'd made people leave one or two seats per table empty then it would be easier to pop in/out of those seats after the meal, but also made each table feel emptier.

This was only the second time I've been to a London Bisexuals meetup but I enjoyed it very much. I had good chats with Kayleigh and Roger and chatted briefly with a handful of other people. A lot of people turned up so the event was well supported and everyone seemed to have a good time.

    December 14, 2012

    • John G

I will come out at Leicester Square about 7.25ish and head to the Costa coffee first. If that works, let me know - a text message or reply here - before 6.45. Take my number down - from "how to find us" at top of event description

Julie yes if you could meet me that would be great, what time could u get there?

      1 · December 14, 2012

  • John G

Want to meet up before dinner? See Abdul's earlier (below on the site) plan to be at Costa coffee on Old Compton st. from 7.30, which is not far from the restaurant. I might show up there with my Mrs, otherwise see you at the restaurant. John (organiser)

    December 14, 2012

    • John G

Any further rsvp changes should reply here or message me directly. Please also (if you have time) try to decide if you would prefer the set menu (you'll get served faster, in groups of 5 or more) - which you can also order extra from; or order individual dishes.

So sad that I'm too ill to make it tomorrow! Was looking forward to meeting everyone. Hope me having to drop out hasn't made life difficult for you, John. Better than me turning up and infecting everybody though! Looking forward to the January meet.

    December 13, 2012

    • John G

Sorry to hear that but thanks for updating your rsvp. See you in the near year (get better soon)!

      December 13, 2012

  • John G

Note, booking is under my name (John), and we'll be upstairs not on the main floor. Still time left to rsvp if you're not yet, or are still on the waiting list and can come.

Is this event only for bisexuals or for lesbians aswell?

    December 7, 2012

    • John G

Of course you(or +friend) can come! As long as you are coming with a positive attitude towards us, we're glad to see you.

      December 8, 2012

  • John G

Mark/Jan+all of you, There's also a good chance I will increase the available spots before then, if there's still a while to go - I'm just limiting numbers (don't for most other meets) so it doesn't suddenly shoot up lots and end up with too many for the restaurant to handle. That way I can check with them before increasing the number by any larger amount. They have lots of space but obv. will also have a busy evening. Reminder: please update your rsvp though if you can't make it, as soon as you can. I'm pretty sure you'll be able to come Jan.

      Chinese is my preference.

Even though I don't usually eat Chinese food, I managed to get a veggie soup & rice at the place we went to after Pride & it wasn't expensive, so ok with me! :-) As long as it's not a more expensive set menu.

Hi john G, I would like to ask you if I am able to brings guest from gay dates to the Christmas event. If so we can discuss with coffee or lunch. bye

    November 15, 2012

    • John G

Guests are fine; if its more than 1, please update your rsvp to mention the guest count; and pleeeeeease update it and make sure they tell you early rather than late if they're not going to come after all. I need to book tables for this remember!

      November 20, 2012

How about Rodizio Rico in Islington? Its a new brazillian barbecue restaurant. You pay for either meat eater or vegetarian option and they bring barbecued meat up to your table but the rest is self service (salads, brazillian street food etc) like a buffet. This would make the event very simple to organise where as most restaurants will be doing set menus that need booking in advance.

    September 23, 2012

    • John G

Also £10 deposit, which is a bit more than I'd like.

No good for me then :-(

I do not like Christmas too sentimental for someone who is single

    November 11, 2012

    • John G

There'll be mostly single folk at the dinner, and mostly coming alone, so you won't feel like the odd one out - its a fun evening with a party mood, hope you change your mind!
