London Bisexuals Monthly Pub Social

Our regular pub social meet on the 4th Thursday of every month. These are also great for new members to come and say hi and get a feel for the group. We have a good attendance (25 or more) to this meet, always with a good mix of regulars and first-timers, guys and girls. Other events happen at random between these socials, with things like dinners, clubbing nights, comedy, plays or anything else you can suggest that gets interest!

If you haven't been, regulars and first-timers will confirm that its a very friendly, open and welcoming environment to hang out in, evidenced by members' reviews (also see attendee notes on each old event page).

We currently meet upstairs at the O Bar in Soho, with comfy sofas. Look for the meetup.com logo or the main organiser (myself, John) name + "meetup group" on a reserved-table sign or for me in person! (I sometimes forget the sign). Expect a normal bar sort of mood, atmosphere, and chat levels - sometimes bi-related, often not; cocktails rather than ales but of course soft drinks also available. We do our best to influence the staff not to have the music too loud to allow talking, its much quieter than the ground-floor's club-like volume level; at least until late 'eve. A little warning: if you turn up later (maybe 8.45pm-ish onwards) and the pub happens to be averagely or more busy, it might be hard to get in or to upstairs with a wait for someone else to leave (from another group, not usually ours) before you can enter. Tell them you're there for John G's meetup group with booked tables and that should ease getting upstairs, and bring photo ID if you've been asked for it at all recently anywhere (they have been known to be picky).

We have a twitter presence ( londonbi), and a facebook page (but the meetup site and sometimes twitter are where the info/activity is).

Finding O Bar

The O Bar is at 83-85 Wardour St, right on the corner of Brewer St and Wardour Street, near Leicester Square / Piccadilly Circus. Its opposite the end of Old Compton St. furthest away from Charing Cross Rd and Leicester Square tube. I try to have a printed out meetup logo for the table (half A4) nearby and I am easily recognisable from my profile photo (I'm also 6' so look for a tall guy with long hair). Don't be afraid to ask groups if they're the meetup group or call me to check where we are, or hang around a bit if you're early. By later on we've usually taken over much of upstairs. We have reserved tables from 7.30pm upstairs in the clubroom and are there til at least 10.30pm, sometimes til 1am when they close (maybe even clubbing after if enough of us fancy it).

Bi in London are surprisingly thriving! I've never seen any else where like this city (Taiwan, Los Angeles, Minneapolis and New York).
Very casual and comfortable atmosphere (and the alcohol has a before-8pm good price!). Nice to know you guys! Next time I'm very likely to bring my bi classmate here.

hi all , i attended late c.9.30 and was indeed confused by the refurb although it was easy to find the side entrance and ask the 2 doorman. i was a little anxious as to having to explain why i wanted to go upstairs . Incidentally i was kept waiting outside as they had a one out one in policy which was bizarre as i when i did finally gain access there were empty chairs and space to mingle.....i met a couple of lovely people which was enough for now as i had been out earlier and was peopled out.
to john and co organisers ....thankyou for arranging this , i brought great anxieties about attending this meet up and i guess maybe others did as well . sometimes not everything will run smoothly , like signage ect but thanks for offering a space that was condusive to discussion but also with a lovely/friendly atmosphere...next time i hope to attenda bit earlier and meet a few more people . xhugsx

Love the event. Meeting new people. However the organizer fail to come on time for the event and unfortunately forget to put a sign for meetup. So a lot of confusion going on today...

I know it may come across arrogant and rude. but, it was my first experience coming here and excepted something totally different.

Abdul, apologies I was a bit late; I was also trying to sort out better signs outside for 5 mins as the bar had done a woeful job. I hope noone walked away without seeing the new entrance (sorry those who had to wait, I wasn't aware the refurb had already started til I got there).

A big thank you to Alex who was the first person to introduce herself to me. I was too scared to introduce myself to anyone! I don't know what I would have done without her! Thanks to her I met some really nice people and had an enjoyable night.

Jami, thanks for your comments. Your thoughts on it being easier next time - well we might be downstairs in the basement again for November's one, Don't know yet, but was mentioned when I confirmed all ok for tonight. Hope you come to one of them!

I can go up or downstairs without the chair, and the bar have very kindly said I could leave it in their office once the ground floor is open again :)

Met some lovely people tonight and considering how nervous I was when I arrived, I left with a big smile on my face & look forward to going back.

I guess I'm sort-of here, if the overflow group in Freedom counts.

IMPORTANT NOTE - bar having work done on ground floor, can't use normal entrance. Go to side entrance (to left as you face front of building) and follow signs - single door, up stairs.

    October 25, 2012

  • John G

We look extra busy tonight so try to get here early or risk having to wait a while!

    October 25, 2012

  • Jami

And for newbies - it's such a nice group - plenty of new people every time, and the people who've been before are not too cliquey - people seem to like each other, so it gives you a good feeling about the group! Also just lots of different kinds of people! I was so scared the first time I went, and I'm SO SO glad that I went in anyway. Kudos to the brave! And I do understand it's a big deal! And lots of people come in on their own :)

Hi - so apparently the ground floor is being refurbished, so I can't leave my wheelchair down there (it's too heavy to go upstairs) - am currently brainstorming whether I could come with my rollator tonight, or lock my wheelchair on the street (I think the pavement's too narrow for this...) or come next month instead.... The wheelchair does go into five pieces, but I think the pieces are still too heavy to carry upstairs, it's more for lifting it into a car boot....... hmmm.....

Not sure if it is too late to reply but I'll be popping along for a short while tonight (can't stay all night). I've never been to one of these events before so shall be a bit on the nervous and shy side.
