RE: [londonbi] Christmas party

My Two Pennys Worth:

I went to My first (and only bi-meetup at present but I attend other meetups) at the O Barr . There were a lot of nice people there, but for me the meetup place was far to loud

and for me personally made holding any kind of  civil conversation very difficult – it seems background music to ad ambiance these days means running the sound system at 99% peak power

So I’m afraid any Christmas party meetup in a similar music loud venue would be a no no as for me this negates the whole purpose of having a MeetUp

Ryan (our assistant organiser) also suggested Zebrano in soho (2 of them I think, from the site), http://www.zebrano.uk.com/ which is a cocktail bar, restaurant and club in one. They might be able to do a discounted deal. Anyone else know it too?

Lots of votes against Wetherspoons, so I think thats out. I think we definitely need to keep budget in mind, and I like the soho/covent garden suggestions for lebanese/similar.

The last group meal was Chinese so I think we should do something different from this (not that we can't have a return trip there or similar places early next year).

Thanks for your suggestions and opinions so far everyone, after tonight there should be enough for me to get a feel to which way to go. Expect it to be pretty central and not too expensive, not a big chain.

I also know a quite decent Vietnamese place up from shoreditch which I've had several work friend's party dinners at and quite like, but it does help having someone to speak the language to get the best service there.

We havnt been able to get to the mid-week meetups since we moved, so really looking forward to a Friday night event.

That said, I really am not keen on Wetherspoons or any chain restaurants, and if I am having a night out in town I would rather go somewhere that has some atmosphere and character. You can eat well, seasonally and CHEAPLY without having to resort to pizza and microwave meals ala WS's.

We can always move onto a pub pre or post dinner for those that only want to drink.

Just think it would be nice to have a change from that. All I'm saying is I'd be more likely to come along than I would be to a bar - but this is just my personal preference.
