FREE EVENTS- Royal Academy of Music Jazz Ensembles

  • Feb 11, 2014 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

There are six of these sessions:

Tuesday 11th February 6.00pm. First-year and third-year jazz ensembles perform.

Tuesday 18th February 6.00pm. Second-year and fourth-year jazz ensembles perform.

Thursday 20th February 6.00pm. Postgraduate jazz ensembles perform.

Thursday 20th March 6.00pm. First-year and third-year jazz ensembles perform.

Tuesday 25th March 6.00pm. Second-year and fourth-year jazz ensembles perform.

Thursday 27th March 6.00pm. Postgraduate jazz ensembles perform.

There is a wide variety of music performed some are original student works and all styles are performed.  Some of the avant garde sets won't be to everyone's taste.  Two bands each play a set with an interval in between and it is an idea to enquire on the students what is being played.  I sometimes leave after the first set.  I won't be able to attend all.  If I'm there I have a sign so maybe other attendees could informally host.  I used to make these gigs more formal and reserve seats but there were too many no shows so turn up 15 mins before to get a seat.  Durations are approximate.  After the gig there is a large Wetherspoons next to Baker St Tube which has a good selection of beer and wine!

All dates: Free, no tickets required

I was there on the 11th for an hour with the Meetup sign but no one seemed to be there. If you were let me know!

I would have done it but it looks like I would have difficulty getting home tomorrow evening. So I have set my RSVP to no.

I will do it next week if you like as I am down for Tuesday.

Lucky you being tube Strike proofed.

Looks like you Angela! Would you like to print out a meetup sign and just flash it around a bit when you get there. I'll do my best to make it for a while but will definitely be at the pub afterwards since I'm tube strike proofed!

    Thanks

    MArtin

If the tube strike is on tomorrow I am not going to be able to travel to Marylebone. If the Jubilee is running I shall be able to get there but my guest will not as she lives a bit further out than me.

    Fingers crossed.

Has someone put their hand up to host yet?

No Probs Janet. Thursdays I should be there for the whole event. Enjoy the concert tonight.

Hi Martin, sorry I can't make this one as I'm at a Richmond Jazz School concert. Will try to come to the next. Enjoy!

Hmm its not formal but it can be loud! I would sit near the door. You may also need to check with the Academy whether there is a minimum age. I've seen older children there with instruments. Do we have our youngest Jazz Fan in the Meetup here?

Do you think these would be OK for a 3-year-old? It's on my route home and it would be great to come for the first set if it's informal enough, but if it's too formal then it probably wouldn't be suitable.

By the way, I have a Pilates class on Tuesdays so won't be there. If someone else wants to host raise hand now!

I think Jacob Collier is now a third year student and hopefully will play piano. Jazzwise featured him in December I think it was.
