Introduction

I'm the organiser of this group. I enjoy listening to live jazz - especially fusion - and am a member at Ronnie Scotts, so thought this meet-up might be a good place to meet some like minded people. I work in the centre of London, and play bass.

Why did you join the London Jazz Meetup?

Most people I know hate jazz, so it's difficult to find people who want to go to new concerts, particularly if the person playing isn't 'a name'. So, thought joining this group might be worthwhile - and I've already met some fantastic new friends.

How did you find out about us?

I've been running the group since April 2008. I hope I'm doing well giving people a forum to share their love of good music.

What's your favourite kind of jazz music?

Bass-led jazz; jazz rock and jazz fusion; piano-led so-called "nu-jazz". Best jazz group of the last twenty years for me is Roadside Picnic, without a doubt. Their Mario Castronari is a phenomenal bassist, but he's not really got much profile now.

Who are you listening to most on your iPod?

The Neil Cowley Trio; Stanley Clarke; Kyle Eastwood; Marcus Miller; Bill Evans; Earth Jazz Agents; Avishai Cohen; Return to Forever; e.s.t.; Barbara Thompson's Paraphernalia; Billy Cobham; Dave Weckl; Victor Wooten; SMV; Jonas Hellborg, Tal Weikenfeld...and Roadside Picnic

  • Thanks for the 'host organiser' permissions. Will check the formatting of your event posts. I'm just getting the relevant info from Sarah then will post the event. This one isn't going to be at Ronnie Scott's, it's actually on a Wednesday 29th Feb at Spice of Life Pub.
    cheers.

  • Hi Rob, I've been enjoying what the group have organised so far, so thank you.
Sarah Moule is doing a gig on 29th Feb & she's asked if I can host it as she found it difficult performing/hosting the last time.
What is entailed in hosting? Is this something you or someone else could co-host with me?
    Cheers, Jennifer

  • Yes we did Rob. After you left for your transport I felt a void from the lack of interaction! There is so much story with Le Sorelle and it often consumes the discussion. Enough said. Let's talk about the meetups. Happy to host Sunday Brunch sessions with all bringing their favorite new jazz finds or whatever your vision is for that forum. You (now) have my ear!!! Thanks.
