Maja Daniels and Liz Hingley will talk separately about their work before joining forces to discuss how they use sociology and anthropology as an active part of their image making process. Both Liz and Maja will be talking about new projects in progress.
Having studied journalism, photography and sociology, Maja’s work focuses on social documentary and portraiture with an emphasis on human relations in a western, contemporary environment.
By using sociology as a frame of research and approach to her photographic work, she finds it a successful combination when trying to focus on the interaction between man and society.
Liz is the inaugural winner of the Prix Virginia, an international award dedicated to women photographers.
The jury stated it was “particularly impressed by the authenticity and sensitive aesthetic and humanity Liz Hingley brings to a socially engaged subject, addressing it with delicacy, without demonstration, without prejudice, and with equal measures of respect and generosity”.
