Evening Code and Coffee / Craft Beer

Every fortnight we meet for coffee, code, craft beer, and great food.

This is a great opportunity to:

•   meet fellow software crafters

•   pair on katas, koans, etc.

•   work on pet or open source projects

•   meet with (or find) your mentor or mentee

•   chat over coffee and beer

We'll be meeting in "Look mum no hands!", a laptop friendly cafe/bar that's open until 10pm, and sells great coffee, excellent beers, and some tasty food.
They also repair bikes and hang them from the ceiling like chandeliers, because why not?

Sorry to those who couldn't make it because of the strikes etc. Hopefully see you later this week at our hands on session, or at the next code / coffee / beer in 2 weeks.

Thanks to those who did make it, it was really great to meet a few new faces and see some old friends.

There was a lot of great conversation today. A few things that came up...

If you have clauses in your contract that say you can't work for competitors for x amount of time, these aren't necessarily binding. Worth looking into if this affects you.

If you think you need JavaScript to do UI, often you don't. Here's a 2 minute example of css doing things that people often assume you need jquery for

We talked about how awesome fun Neo4j is.

This wonderful piece on distributed port scanning.

    Good morning folks!

We have a bunch of people on the waiting list again, so if you can't come, please RSVP 'no' so they can come along.

I'll be working on some scraping and things this evening. If any of you want to pair let me know.

    See you later x

Luke, we're running a hands on session on wedesday.
There's a waitlist but with all the strikes it's likely there will be a lot of drop off, so I'm betting there will be a spot for you.

I'll also be at cybersalon's big data meetup tomorrow night at digitaslbi, talking about global data privacy.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
