It’s Comedy with melodies. It’s COMELODY.

dear all, a friend of mine is a rising star in stand up comedy.
his upcoming performance (1 hour tour preview) gives us a great opportunity to do our first meetup.

details are as follows:

Date: 02 March 2009
Time: 21:30 - 22:30
Location: Etcetera Theatre, above Oxford Arms
Street: 265 Camden High Street, NW1 7BU
Town/City: London, United Kingdom Preview of Yianni's 2009 Melbourne Comedy Festival Show "Comelody"

Have you ever wished that your life had a soundtrack? Yianni did. Imagine chatting someone up to “Foxy Lady”. Or scoring a goal to “Danger Zone” Then one day, it happened! You should always be careful what you wish for however! Far from being the compliant backing band that Yianni had hoped for, his soundtrack talks back!

Now his constant companion, Yianni and his soundtrack tell stories from his life

1. foiling a mugging using only his wits (Public Enemy)
2. falling in love (Ben Lee)
3. losing her (Ben Folds)
4. crying in the arms of a stripper (The Cure)
5. having a stranger serenade a relationship breakup (Bob Marley) and
6. Yianni’s career as a priest in a small Cypriot village (you couldn’t pronounce it). It's guaranteed you'll hear stories and songs that you love!

A cross between a movie, a cartoon and a stand up show, Comelody is an IMMERSIVE STORYTELLING EXPERIENCE.

From its wordless, Chaplinesque ragtime opening scene through to it’s gritty hip-hop inspired climax, COMELODY explores different ways of using sound and music to produce humour.
An eclectic music mix includes Bach, The Beatles, Beethoven, C&C Music Factory, Chicane, The Cure, Doves, Hendrix, Joplin, Marley, The Presets, Snoop Dogg, Sigur Ros and Sting plus many more.

It’s Comedy with melodies. It’s COMELODY.

There is a nominal door charge of £4 (£2.50 ticket price plus £1.50 obligatory Etcetera Theatre membership) to cover the cost of the theatre.

the show was actually really good...
yianni was hilarious but it was difficult to meet members as the pub downstairs was packed.
i managed to meet 2 other members and they were good fun too!

It was fun, I'll admit. But I was also there to see how comedy was at that venue (-strange, & silly the way so many were being let in after he'd already started!), & see if any fellow comedy writers came to these things. He did seem lots of fun, but the event didn't 'tick the other two boxes' quite. And the people did seem a bit too 'Camden' & 'up themselves'...!My only other concern was that it wasn't musical comedy, & the only reason I could connect with it was because I've been crap too... (-it's just I haven't had the Greek/Australian twang to it lately!). Okay?
