Is Debate Dead? Silly Season Special

With support from the London Debating Hub we have developed our own unique format which is fun for novice debaters and veterans a like.

We're also doing a silly season special this month - so perfect for newcommers!

What else?

The format is not like your typical university debate, the topic is announced shortly after arrival. This makes for the fun, quick thinking challenge we love. Don't worry, the topics are chosen intentionally to suit the format so it doesn't matter how much you know about a particular subject. All background information is given and its something topical.

It is also a social event with plenty of time to chat within small groups. This is the perfect event for those of you that want the chance to contribute without feeling the need to use debating jargon or want the chance to be involved without getting up in front of everyone.

After the topic is announced and the initial buzz has calmed, two volunteer teams will then take to the floor to argue the for and against case. They are given 10 minutes each to devise their argument, often with people keen to help from the floor. A unique, informal take on the typical debate there's a chance for everyone to have their say on the topic or whatever is on your mind that day.

An added bonus is that one of your hosts for this event is also a professional debate coach and is on hand to give you any pointers and help you with the great skill that is debating. So, the ideal way to meet new people and make use of that grey matter over a few drinks.

Arrive from 7pm for a 7.30pm start - Note: If the weather isn't looking good, we will move into a pub next to Bank Tube Station.

We're meeting between 6.45 - 7pm outside Marble Arch tube station! It's the Hyde Park exit 3 next to the Arch. Not Oxford Street. Don't forget to bring something to drink with you x

I would like to change my RSPV to a 'No', despite trying to do this on the site I can't. Please accept this email as confirmation that I will not be attending tomorrow's discussion. Maybe there are issues with this site now, will try later. Thanks

I had the same issue yesterday and sent an email (I think the Meetup event RSVP date had expired). Anyway, seems option is back again and you can change RSVP if needed.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
