Its seems fitting at the end of the year to announce that Drew and myself have decided to step down as user group managers.
This is no way is a reflection of the announcements around Flex but rather pressures of work and the direction that it has taken away from Flex. Speaking for myself Flex is no longer part of my working life so it seems mad to represent an official Adobe user group for software I no longer use, in truth I'm a designer and was only involved at a graphic level anyway but always had a passion for flash related technologies.
Creating apps, interfaces and websites is still central to my business and I will continue to learn and embrace them as the web changes, and will always approach projects in a technology agnostic way. Getting caught up in any technology to the point where you can no longer be objective is bad and I encourage you all to look at all the alternatives.
I've had a great time helping to run the group and have met many fine people and friends so its been a worthwhile experience for me. I hope i've contributed to helping the community in some way and I wish all of you future success.
Flex is by no means dead as you all probably know and will be open sourced soon, so if anyone wishes to step up to the plate and take ove the running of the group let me know. I'll need to check Adobe's standpoint on whether they will continue to support it officially but whether they do or don't doesn't mean a group can't exist, we still have a thousand members and I hope someone deeply involved in Flex will be able to support the community.
All the best have a great Xmas and a fruitful new year.
