Londoneers 8th meetup - Show an install

At this meetup I'd like to kick-off what I hope will be a series of "Show an install" presentations by different Londoneers, by showing you around the control panel and templates for a website I developed earlier this year. I've found in earlier meetups and workshops elsewhere that you always learn useful tips and tricks when you get to look around another developer's control panel or templates, or at least some reassurance to see that someone else is doing things the same way you do. I will be presenting, a redesign launched May 2010. The site is built in 1.6.9 and uses Solspace's tagging module, Pixel and Tonic's Playa, and the Gypsy extension, as well as a whole host of others which I use to improve the user experience for the site editor. As always, if you have anything else you would like to discuss please add it to the comments and/or just come along and put it on the table.

Thanks to all for another insightful and entertaining meetup.

As promised I spent some time last night digging into this whole Simple vs. Complex Conditionals thing, and learned quite a bit. The short answer is that it's not as simple as was suggested last night.

I've created a forum entry on EE that breaks down what I learned, both from reading some resources (linked in post), and my own trial and error:

See you all next time, or in the forums! - J

My first meetup, refreshing to see how to structure templates in different ways, and useful tips on extensions and other dev tools!

I mentioned a couple of tools at the meeting, they are shown in a presentation I did a while back at a retail conference.

Skip to "part 2 - remote testing" for the juicy bits.

Really good session. Emily's run through of one of her sites was really useful, both in itself and the discussions it sparked. Time very well spent.

My first meetup, and extremely useful, even just to meet other EE-ers. Extensions, man! There's a whole world out there I've never got round to exploring. As the meetings evolve, it may be better to give them a bit more structure because this got a bit tangential at times, but at the same time it would be a shame to close down free-flowing discussion and the ideas it throws up. But I'll definitely be back for more. Thanks to Emily and Simon for putting it together.
