Londoneers meetup: what did you learn last year?

I hope that everyone will contribute to this session: please come along with a couple things you learned in 2011 that you'd like to share. It can be development tips, production processes, client management, handy add-ons that have become a must-have, or rubbish that's been jettisoned never to be used again. (We might find that someone mentions something we want more detail on, and can schedule that for a later meetup).

See you there!

Excellent - love the more informal approach.

A very useful get together... It's interesting to find out that a lot of us have similar questions e.g. how to communicate the value of scoping and wireframing to clients; should we deliber mobile optimised sites or native web apps; should we always deliver what the customer wants even if we know its the wrong thing to do? There were good discussions surrounding these issues last night, not to mention some EE talk, mainly focussed on Subscriptions systems (Membrr and OpenGateway) and E-commerce solutions (Cartthrob). There was some talk about the roadmap for EE 3 and having sight of this from Ellis Labs, but unfortunately information is scarce at present. Altogether, a very useful meet-up! Thanks for organising, I look forward to the next one.

Oh, you're right, sorry! I think I got confused somehow, maybe because of February's date. Looking forward to it.

Hi Sarah. No, Apr 18, Jun 20 and Aug 15, are all 3rd Wednesdays according to my calendar.

Odd, the future dates seems to be a mix of the 3rd Wednesday and the 4th Wednesday. Is that a bug in Meetup?

Thanks for the ideas folks. I'm going to suggest we go with the 'useful stuff I learned in 2011' theme for this one, and look at revisiting e-commerce and talking about mobile later in the year.

Just a thought but has anyone got any experiences of mobile they'd like to share? How they approached it, plugins used etc etc? We're looking at it for a couple of ecommerce sites as well as how we would want to tackle our own, so happy to share what we've found so far even if it's a bit half-baked still.

Oh, and thanks for kicking this off again, I meant to call when I got an email from the Bell and completely forgot!

Would a "useful stuff I learnt in 2011" from everyone there be a good format? Sometimes it's nice to look back and see how far we've all come. It could be dev tips, production processes, client management, handy add-ons that have become a must-have, or rubbish that's been jettisoned never to be used again. Doesn't need anyone to pull presentations together unless they really want to.

You mean covered as a topic? I think we covered it in an e-commerce themed one. If anyone has more recent experience of it we can review it for sure.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
