Fungi course in Richmond Park!

Join me for a morning of fungal fascination on a Fungi Course at Richmond Park. The course typically starts with a 30 minute talk followed by a two hour walk.

Fungi are unpredictable but the natural, organic environment of the park should trun up some rich pickings. Our hosts, Janet Bostock & Elizabeth Cheesman have run this course for a number of years so they will have plenty of knowledge and experience to share. Tea and coffee are usually provided and for those who wish to socialise after the event we will return to Pembroke Lodge for suitable refreshments.

There is no charge for the course but you must be a member of The Friends of Richmond Park. This costs £6 pa individual or £10 pa household. Membership opens up a variety of courses walks and events in Richmond Park. For membership see

 http://www.frp.org.uk/friends/get-involved

Don't delay as it can take a week or two for membership to be confirmed. When applying for membership request a place on the November 16th Fungus Course.

Time: 9:50am, November 16th

Meeting Point: Pembroke Lodge, Richmond Park.

Here is a list with links to photos of some of the fungi we saw in the second group, though there were quite a few I didn't manage to get names of. http://dressel.co.uk/fungus/richmond_fungi.html

This is a good site for information on individual fungi http://www.first-nature.com/fungi/index.php

Very interesting, fun morning in and around Pembroke Lodge. Our little meet-up group were part of a very large Friends of Richmond Park event, but more was merrier in this case. Also had time to walk round Pen Ponds and skirt Isabella Plantation in afternoon. Thanks to Mark for organising.

Agree. Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable speaker and lots to take away from that. Also impressive demonstration of how little log piles can become important wildlife habitats in a very short time. Looking forward to another talk and walk in Richmond.

Sorry you can't make it Paula, hope you get well soon. I did a fungus walk with this guy a few weeks ago. It was a good event, and you get to take the edible ones home! http://www.fungitobew... Not sure if he has any more organised this season?

I hope you all have a great time! I was planning on coming this morning even for just part of the course, to say hello and check it out, but the baby has a cold and I couldn't get him ready in time :(.

Hi, Hope you can all make it. I will be outside the Pembroke Lodge from 9:50. I will fix a cardboard red and white mushroom to my black watch hat (the things I do for meetup!). If you need it, my mobile is 07788 116768.
    Cheers,

One of our members has been told by Friends of Richmond Park that they will accept membership applications / payments on the door, so if you haven't been able to get your applications away, just make sure your booked onto the course. I notice that there is a car park outside the Lodge so as some of you are probably coming by car I will change the meeting point to outside the Pembroke Lodge at 9:50am.

    See you then!

Hi All, Due to the slow turnaround of applications I have contacted Friends of Richmond Park and they have said that as long as they are in receipt of the application and our names are on the course list we do not have to show proof of membership. They will simply check the list. Due to the number of visitors, Richmond Park is a stressed environment which means we can't pick any mushrooms, so we wont be going home with any tasty morsels. But if your into foraging you can never know enough about what you one day might eat, and with two guides we should learn some useful tips.

Are you promising truffles? The Park must be full of surprises. Sent off for becoming friend, but no response yet, and booked with Sue (responded), so think I am on course. Looking fwd.

Truffles - that would be a find! I have emailed Sue to find out what we can do if confirmation of 'Friends of Richmond Park' don't come through before the 16th. I am presuming that we can turn up and they will have a list of those who have applied. I'll post here her response.

    Hi Trufflers!

10 days to go so just a quick reminder that to attend the course you need to be a Friend of Richmond Park and to have booked a place. So if you haven't done so already, please contact Sue on[masked] or [masked]

    Cheers
