Portrait Studio Lighting

  • This location is shown only to members

Following the success of the Introduction to Studio Lighting workshops we’re running the more advanced workshop focusing on portrait photography.  This session will cover in detail the practical build up of three styles of lighting set ups and show you how you can make subtle adjustments to the lights to help you create photographs that stand out from the crowd. We are limiting number of attendees to six so you will each be fully supported have individual shooting time and we should be able to answer any questions you may have.

You will learn how to create three distinctive lighting setups; an edgy ‘grunge look’, the flattering classic ‘Hollywood lighting’ and ‘Product lighting’, where we will show you how to manage the light in order draw attention to the product a model may be promoting.

Everyone will have individual shooting time and receive full guidance and support from the tutors.  If you would like to further develop your understanding of studio lighting then do come along.

You will need to have studio experience to attend this session as this is about perfecting the light and not camera or equipment settings. If you haven't attended any studio workshops then come along to the Introduction workshop first.

The workshops are approximately 3 hours in duration.

Our Kit:

We will be using 3 Bowen Gemini Pro 750Ws Monolights as well as light modifiers to experiment with. We have all of the equipment you will need so don't worry about flash triggers, just bring your camera.

What you will need:

An SLR or similar camera with standard hot-shoe. If you have another type, you'll need to bring your own adaptor.

A suitable lens

We're shooting in a relatively small space, so while any standard lens will work; a 35mm, 17-55 or a 24-70mm lens will probably be best.

A clean memory card

The model will be expecting to take away a copy of your images at the end of the session. You will need to shoot Jpeg or Raw with Jpeg so please come with clean memory cards so we can download the images quickly.

As usual check TFL for any transport issues on the day.

Studio is around the corner from Haggerston Overground Station.

Went pretty well, relaxed and friendly atmosphere, workshop was lead in a very informal and professional way. There was time and chance for everyone to have hands on both shooting and setting up light.
