Tom Ang : Guest Speaker at the LPMGs Annual Seminar

This year we are pleased to announce Tom Ang as the guest speaker for the LPMGs annual seminar. Tom Ang is considered the 'photographers photographer' because he doesn't limit himself to any one form of photography but seems to excel in all forms. He is a television presenter with shows which include 'A Digital Picture of Britain’, and 'Britain in Pictures'. He is the author of many photography books including 'How to Photograph Absolutely Everything' and 'The Digital Photographers Handbook'.

Mr Ang will be talking about his 30 year career in photography, how he got started through to what he's doing today and most importantly - why he does it : the pictures. He'll discuss writing books and making tv programmes and how he manages to stay so productive. He'll also show and talk about his favourite images and we'll have an opportunity to see some of his images that haven't been seen before. There will also be an hour for a question and answer session so you can pick the brain of the man who is probably one of the most successful photographers today.

Mr Ang will be selling his books and has kindly offered to autograph his books - whether you buy one on the day or bring one of your own - for a donation to be given to the charity he supports 'Practical Action'. The LPMG will be making a donation to the same charity with profits made from the day.

Chris Sargent Landscape Photography
Chris will be starting the day off with a talk on 'Aspects of Landscape Photography'

Chris is a keen amatuer photographer who has been a member of the LPMG since the beginning in 2006. Chris won LPMGs PoTY in 2008 and his work appears in photography magazines regularly. Chris's photography, whether it be macro, portrait, architecture, street or any other type he sets his eye to is outstanding but his love lies in landscape photography, take a look at his landscape shots here: http://www.flickr.com...

Thanks to Tom for all his help organising, hosting and generally doing what he does best and making sure events run smoothly. What a great day starting with Chris's landscape talk, informative with great images and a weird quirky sense of humour! Thanks Chris. And Tom Ang was just inspirational... beautiful images, amazing creativity including all his patchwork images and the bleached overexposed stuff was magical... if you're reading this Tom, thanks again sir... this was a talk and I simply won't ever forget it. And thanks to Wendy for sorting out all the background stuff so you could get here. Hope to see you again one day.

Superb presentations by both Chris and Tom. Hat's off to the tenacity that Alex demonstrated in managing to bag such a photographic megastar for our humble group. Tom Ang was very good too. ;o) I jest of course. I hope that we can get both of these guys back again soon to offer more insights to their expertise.

This was tremendous value, enjoyable and also informative. It provided the inspiration of going to an excellent art gallery with background information given in an informal style to enable my own amateur afforts to progress. Very much enjoyed and well done for all the organisational effort and for picking such good speakers. Ben

This was my first Seminar and what a way to start. I really enjoyed this event and it has given me encouragement and inspiration to want to take better pictures and to keep my eye peeled at all times for anything that would make a good picture better.....
  • Hannah Mitchell
The whole day was very interesting, inspiring and useful. The venue was pretty good too. I've only managed to attend two events so far but they've both been excellent and I look forward to being able to get to some more in the near future.

Very worthwhile lecture by Tom Ang. The photographic ideas he presented were simple and yet effective. Thanks LPMG for setting this up.

Great speaker, really generous with his time and knowledge, and fantastic at making you feel that success is within the reach of all of us. Great venue too. Well done to Alex for organising such a great event!

Quality! Tom was a really good speaker and covered so much, I enjoyed seeing his 'caterpillar' work and the white project. Chris' talk was really informative especially the areas around focusing. Thanks very much for organising.

Tom Ang is just so inspiring! It's not just his great photographs, it's even more the way he does things. Fantastic!
  • Michael Preston
Tom's talk was very informative and I got a lot out of it. I also really loved Chris's talk and found this really good. I hope he puts the presentation on the web for others to download - I'd definitely like a copy!

A very enjoyable day of talks by Chris & Tom. It is great that Alex managed to get such a high profile person as Tom Ang to talk to us.
  • Richard Carpenter
Excellent talk, thank you Alex for organising it all!
  • SEL25
Fantastic I thought he was very open about his experiences and entertaining in his presentation
  • janmaikeru
It was a very platitudinous talk.
  • Jo C
Great to see so many fantastic photos and to hear about someone who does things differently-an inspiration.
  • Sarah
Tom Ang is an excellent speaker and an excellent photographer. I liked his down to earth approach. The various techniques he uses are very inspirational and I will certainly try the 'caterpillar'.
  • Gina
Fantastic. Thoroughly enjoyable and learned loads. Also Chris' talk was excellent and thanks for some personal help with my camera too. I loved Tom's photos made up of cut-up squares of other photos - gorgeous. Gina

I found Tom and his work to be both motivating and inspirational and I've learned a lot. Such a pity that this event clashed with the 'I'm a Photographer not a Terrorist' protest today otherwise I know a bunch of mates who would have loved to come to this. Many thanks to both the speakers and to Alex and Tom for arranging it :)
