Quoc Huy will be running this session on Speedlites.
Many of you may know Huy's work as he has been published in multiple magazines from Practical Photography to Eye Spy magazine where he very recently had the cover spread. Huy is a portrait photography expert and with his attention to light, detail, composition and skill his portraits take on a new dimension. Lighting is key to Huy's work and if you haven't seen what he does take a look at www.qhphotography.com or www.quoc-huy.com. Huy is very talented in the use of Speedlites and all types of flash and what you can't learn from him just isn't worth knowing.
So if you're ready to get to grips with your Speedlite and you're looking to learn to use flash both on and off the camera this FotoGym is designed for you. Speedlites is not specific to any particular make or model so it doesn't matter if you use Nikon, Canon, Metz or any other brand you'll learn a lot from this session.
The session will include:
9.30-10.00 Coffee or tea (optional)
10.00-10.15 Introduction and info regarding flash types
10:15-10.45 Theory
Critique: Shots in by 1.30 at the latest please for a critique with the best shot winning free entry to a FotoGym of their choice.
Bring your cameras, flash heads, triggers, receivers and any accessories; softboxes, reflectors, snoots, gobo's etc you may have. We'd like have enough kit available for people to try out so if you have it, bring it.
Looks fantastic thanks for organising this

TTL confuses me a lot. I feel I have no control. This class is exactly what I need. I hope there will be a few words on diffusers. I also hope that I could answer the following question myself someday.
Do strobists hate "natural-lighting" photographers or envy them (especially the Leica toting ones)?
just out of curiosity, will it be about Canon or Nikon Speed light?
Or off camera flash in general?
This workshop is not make specific and will cover all types of Speedlites.
looking forward to it Hopefully i'll learn how to use my Nikon Speedlight;)

Think this will help me understand flash photography :)
Huy know his stuff. Well worth attending. Sorry that I can't make it.
To be honest I haven't got a clue about speedlites- so that means that I'll really learn something this time. But I haven't got any equipment apart from my camera yet- is this going to be a problem? XX Katja
It's only going to be a problem if you're expecting to participate in the practical session, Katja. If you can't bring a flash with you then you'll not get much out of the session unless you can borrow one and I would think it quite unlikely that anyone will have a spare flash. I would try try to arrange to borrow one before you come along if I was you.
So gutted missing this, but will be taking pictures of polar bears at the time (hopefully!). Please repeat this if at all possible!!!
well, i've got my Canon DSLR and Speedlite 430EX II Flash Unit. Is this enough?
Katja
What camera do you have? You could always pair up with someone with the same camera (esp if you have a Canon) and I'm sure you will get as much out of it that way. I'd be happy to share if you have a Canon
Karen thanks, it's really lovely of you to offer. Yes, I have a Canon and actually have found someone that is willing to lend me one speedlite, she is also going to let me use some stands to mount them on with diffusers, I would be very happy though to compare the equipment that we have and to share and combine? See u there! x Katja
I so love this group ;o) Thanks for getting into the spirit here, Karen.
well, i've got my Canon DSLR and Speedlite 430EX II Flash Unit. Is this enough? anyone plz!
KiranGosu - I can't speak for the organisers but I think most people will be bringing a 1 light set-up and if not then we'll share.
I am happy to report that I'm a total techno-tart so I can bring soft-boxes, beauty dishes, umbrellas, reflectors - all on stands - I'll label it all so if you want to try it out you'd be welcome
As Katja said - we'll share and combine
I wasn't even worried about my kit but Karen I think I love you!
oh trust me this is not self-less sharing and caring lol. I'm hoping to learn to use the stuff and I guess watching other people use the gear I'm working on will help me understand it all

Hi all,
It's very exciting to see the energy and the will to share in this group.
I hope you'll enjoy the event.
This one will be different from what I've done in the past for the group. I will be mainly discussing the use of TTL where as in the past I've only discussed the manual mode.
As a Nikon shooter, I'll be demonstrating with Nikon CLS/AWL (Nikon's wireless flash system) but the theory applies to Canon's flash system with the use of the ST-E2 IR transmitter.
If you own a ST-E2 or are lucky to have the Pocket Wizard MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 or RadioPopper PX, bring them along!
To answer James Leung questions, Strobists don't hate nor envy "natural-lighting" photographers. They add flash light to the natural light either to complement it or replace it. And learning Strobist's techniques will give you the ability to choose and adapt.
Has the place got clip on microphones like they have in TV studios, so as to get a consistent audio?
Karen, if the offer of shared kit is on, (i.e. Katja has found someone to share some kit with) I'd really really like to take you up. I am bringing a guest along, and currently we have a camera each but only one EX530 + ebay trigger kit between us. At the moment I'm looking at picking up some pocket wizards so if anyone could let me at a set even for just a short time I'd really appreciate it.
Really looking forward to this guys, we're a strong group together and can't wait to get started.
Looking forward to this Meetup...

May the light be with you!
I thoroughly enjoyed the session. It learned a lot and enjoyed meeting lots of other enthusiasts! Will upload photos soon.. Hopefully next time the venue can have that radio mic fixed :-) Thanks to Tom, Alex, Quoc-Huy & everyone who made this session possible. Nick
Don't forget to rate and comment this meetup. It's important for the group in order to know what you liked or disliked and get better in the future.
Something else: I lost a cover for a Nikon speedlight, it's a milky see-through plastic hood that goes over the top of the light - has anyone handed one in? I would be very greatful indeed. Meet up was very good - I learnt a lot. Katja Heber
Great event very informative and a great presentation.
Just one idea i would have liked each different group to rotate to the other models
as i felt i missed out on the lo key type of shots indoors.
