Hi all,
We have now finished roadtesting the Chiswick pub-crawl and the plans/details are below. Chiswick is a very nice area, it is also popular but it is not exceptionally busy so there should be plenty of space to move around. All the pubs are along the main Chiswick High Road so there should be no problems getting home at the end of the night
Please only phone on the night
First though we should mention, in case of any difficulty on the night you can contact Martyn on 07727 457861 or Terry on 07846 639420 (please take these numbers - in the unlikely event that you get lost). I will also be wearing a navy hat all night so you can recognize me.
First pub and meeting place
Our first pub is The Old Pack Horse (434 Chiswick High Road, London, W4 5TF). This pub is in the main Chiswick High Road/Street and is very close to Chiswick Park Tube Station. The Old Pack Horse is one of the oldest pubs in Chiswick. We will meet here at 6.30pm .
Getting to the first pub
To find The Old Pack Horse you should exit Chiswick Park Tube station and cross the road directly into Acton Lane. You will find the pub approximately 150 metres on the left hand side at the corner of Chiswick High Road.
Second pub on the crawl - the Crown and Anchor
We will leave The Old Pack Horse at 8.00 pm and then head for the Crown and Anchor (374 Chiswick High Rd, London, W4 5TA). This is a newly refurbished pub with with really friendly staff. This venue is approximately 300 metres from The Old Pack Horse and is only a short walk from the tube station if you arriving late. If you are arriving late then below are the details to find the Crown and Anchor.
Getting to the second pub if you are arriving late
To get to the Crown and Anchor you should exit Chiswick Park Tube station and then cross the road directly into Acton Lane (heading towards Chiswick High Road). Turn left at Chiswick High Road and walk for about three hundred yards. You will see the Crown and Anchor on the left hand side.
Third pub on the crawl - George IV
We will leave the Crown and Anchor at at 9.15 pm and head for the George IV (185 Chiswick High Road, Chiswick, London, W4 2DR). The George IV is also located on Chiswick High Road (on the right hand side, approximately 400 metres from the Crown and Anchor on the opposite side of the high street). This pub is very old and exceptionally well preserved.
Final pub - The Barley Mow
We will leave the George IV at 10.30pm and head for The Barley Mow- a two minute walk from The George IV . The pub address is not technically part of Chiswick High Road. However, in practice the pub entrance is actually on Chiswick High Street (9 Barley Mow Passage - Chiswick - W4 4PH - opposite the Abbey Bank on Chiswick High Street). This place has great reviews and has free entry. This is a popular destination and there will be a live band playing but the landlord assures us that we will easily have enough room to move around. The Barley Mow closes at 1am and we will almost certainly finish the night here. However, in very rare instances members do decide to go elsewhere (we take opinions on the night). However, we are guaranteed to be in this venue until 11.30pm.
I hope this has explained everything. If you have any queries then please do not hesitate to email us. Or you can give us a ring on the above telephone numbers.
Finally, I'd like to thank all the members who have given us recommendations for places to visit in Chiswick. We try our best to return emails but we do get rather a lot lately and know that we have possibly missed a few. So we apologize if that has been the case as we are very grateful that you are interested in our meetup. Also we just want to say that we get a few emails asking if people who don't drink alcohol are welcome. We'd just like to make it clear that we meet many people on our pubcrawls who don't drink alcohol and they are totally welcome.
Cheers
Martyn and Terry
