Brighton VegFest (Saturday)

Brighton VegFest is always a great day out (or two). Last year, I didn't stay over but just went down both days. I'll probably do the same again this year - hence two events.

This is for Saturday. (Sunday is here: http://meetu.ps/vb0Ts)

Our friends from The Vegetarian Meetup Group are going too, so I suspect we'll try to coordinate. Their event for the Saturday is here:
http://meetu.ps/tkwDd

So, time to firm up plans...

Plan A: Victoria (best if you already have a ticket)

9:30 to 9:45 Meet Julie at London, Victoria near the bottom of the escalators that lead up to Victoria Place (by platform 13).

9:45-ish See how many vegans we can squeeze into one carriage. (The plan is to board the train relatively early so we're not just dotted around the train - and can even save space for latecomers.)

10:06 Train leaves Victoria.

10:57 Train arrives in Brighton, and we head for the Hove Centre. It's about a 40 minute walk via the scenic route (along the front) or about 15 minutes by bus or train. (We normally walk.)

"Turn up and go" tickets for the Victoria train are £25.20! So, if you don't already have a ticket, I recommend the Blackfriars option (£10) below instead.

Plan B: Blackfriars (best if you DON'T already have a ticket)

9:00 to 9:15 Meet Robb at London, Blackfriars (and buy tickets!) I don't know the station, so let's say we'll meet at the entrance to platform 1.

9:15-ish See how many vegans we can squeeze into one carriage. (The plan is to board the train relatively early so we're not just dotted around the train - and can even save space for latecomers.)

9:35 Train leaves Blackfriars.

10:55 Train arrives in Brighton, and we wait two minutes for those on the Victoria train...

Great event with a wide variety of stalls for vegans as well as talks, music, stand-up comedy, films, etc.

The best time I've had for awhile ! The veg fest was great, discovering Hove town centre was good, Brighton was full of surprises and lovely people, The George was a good pub and also the Cowley Club I liked! :) went onto the Volks club later that was MAD !

Thank you for stopping by Shambhu's on Saturday. We managed to see and speak to a few people over the weekend. It was really nice to see you all.

Great to see so many people at VegFest. Just sorry I didn't manage to speak to everyone! But whether you made it there over the weekend or not, don't forget that VegFest is coming to London this October! And while the increased costs of putting on a show in the capital mean that there is an admission fee for London, you can currently get two tickets for the price of one... http://www.theticketsellers.co.uk/tickets/vegfest-uk-london/10025458

Well, we nearly turned around and went home when we first got out because it was pouring with rain and very windy and cold. I'm so glad we carried on though because we had such a brilliant time! Lilyana and I got the same train as Anita and Mia, had lots to chat about, shared food and watched the girls enjoy each others company also on thee way back too. We also met up with 'Mumma' Mia, Grant & Gabriella and Cynthia, John & Iraultza & Liane plus others from the vegan meetup which was so nice-didn't feel like we were among strangers! I managed to get half way around the stalls which isn't too bad considering having a toddler in towe, and had lots of samples and 'cloccloc (lilyana's name for chocolate), cakes, food, vegan ice cream......Loved the wholeday so shall look forward to more like that. :)

If you don't want to walk from Brighton Station (and the weather currently suggest that you won't walk to do so) then the number 6 bus looks like your best bet - from Brighton Station to Hove Town Hall.

    March 16, 2013

    • Robb

Won't *want* to do so, not won't *walk* to do so!

Argh! Sorry, I changed my RSVP to 'No', as I'll definitely be heading down on Sunday, but forgot to delete my comment (forgetting that Messup now plonks it into the conversation).

Hey anyone coming by car know what parking's like in and around the Hove area? Where's the central meeting point once inside the centre?

    March 15, 2013

    • Jules

I drove last year. There's a carpark right opposite the Hove Centre. Not sure about a group meeting point inside though x

I'm also getting the train from St. Pancras so will hopefully see you guys at Blackfriars. I haven't made it to a meetup before so just wondering if you're meeting anywhere later in the centre, in case I miss you on the train?

      March 15, 2013

  • Mark

The 09:35 from Blackfriars originates at Bedford as the 08:24 service, so for anyone joining elsewhere in London the times are:

    London St Pancras [STP] 09:23
    Farringdon [ZFD] 09:28
    London Blackfriars [BFR] 09:35
    Elephant & Castle [EPH] 09:39
    East Croydon [ECR] 10:10

Just to give you a heads up, Blackfriars has entrances on both sides of the Thames as the platforms span the river. So if you find yourself alone, it's not because you've been stood up, just get your ticket and be on the right platform for the train.

You all have to come back together too! But if you're sure you're going to do so, it can save you 50%.
